Anglers are still targeting stripers in the Mullica with good success according to Violet with Chestnut Neck Boat Yard. Live eels have been the key to getting these fish to bite as plenty of anglers say they are marking fish but coming up empty when trolling, jigging on throwing hard/soft plastics. The fish have been ranging in size from 18 to 34 inches with plenty of fish in the keeper slot range. Flounder action improved this week with reports of fish being caught consistently on the outgoing tide near the Fish Factory. The standards like minnows, spearing, squid and Gulp were all working, but anglers reported that the keeper ratio improved dramatically when fishing quartered shedder crabs on top n’ bottom rigs.

Chestnut Neck Boat Yard reports that there are a lot of flounder being caught, especially on the days when the wind dies down (specifically this past Tuesday). Anglers fishing that day reported the best catches of the week with several parties telling us they had their limit of flounder, or were just a fish or two shy. The rest of the week, anglers seemed to be plagued with short fish and wind against tide conditions. We have heard of some smaller weakfish being caught near the Fish Factory on top and bottom rigs tipped with pink Gulp. Fresh shedder crabs are now in stock for anyone looking to target weakies, but they also make an excellent bait this time of the year for flounder.
