Dick’s Bait and Tackle

We spoke with Keegan from Dick’s Bait and Tackle who had been catching some nice blues in the 6- to 10-pound class from Chappy and the south side. Almost anything they tossed brought that familiar and much appreciated response from those chopping machines, Doug said the terns were diving off South Beach and in Vineyard Haven Harbor and were picking away at some type of fry. Casting into them with even the tiny jigs and tins received no response. The nighttime bass fishing is still producing but the bite is turning on much later towards morning and those who have to work aren’t able to stay out that long. There are a lot of fluke on the north side with plenty of action from shore but most of the fish are just under the minimum size. Steve is out in the canyons with Captain Lee and were into tuna almost as soon as they arrived. Stop in and see the new shop and the new types of merchandise they are able to offer.

We spoke with Steve from a very busy Dick’s Bait and Tackle where anglers were lined up for their supplies for the weekend. Not many regulars can believe there has been such a shortage of bluefish but it has not yet been more than just a trickle of blues along the south side around to the rips. The night bass bite had slowed a bit but the guys soaking squid were still taking a few legal bass and some fish up to the 40-inch class. His customer and friend Captain Lee made a trip to east Atlantis canyon where they found quite a few yellowfin, a few bigeyes and a big blue marlin. One of our friends fished the south west corner of the Vineyard, once a hotspot for alligator blues and all he came away with were two four pound blues caught on the southeast corner. That’s a long ride for two small blues for the smoker,
