We spoke with Mike from Falmouth Bait & Tackle who said there were reports of catches of albies and bonito along the sound side from Osterville to Falmouth Harbor and to the east. There has been some topwater action along the eastern part of the Elizabeths where bonito and smaller blues were working their way towards Woods Hole. The boats that were able to make it to the canyons were catching some quality yellowfin tuna to 187-pounds, with some skippers reporting yellowfin over 200-pounds with some Allisons and mahi on the flyers. The shop has some great inventory for the blue water travelers so stop in and say hello.

Our friend Christian from Falmouth Bait & Tackle said the giant blue marlin caught aboard Damon Saco’s boat last week was actually 1260-pounds and was 400 pounds larger than the current state record. It is also one of the largest landed along the entire eastern seaboard. Fish of that size are not easy to hook but they are certainly most difficult to leader or land. There are good numbers of yellowfin in the western canyons and some large bigeyes in the eastern canyons. Locally there are bones, small blues and a few albies showing in Vineyard Sound and along the shore of the Elizabeths where anglers are seeing a few albies but not hooking up with them. He also reported on and sent me a video of a Nantucket surf angler hooking and landing a 40-pound Cubero Snapper which he immediately released. This is the month when southern visitors show up along our shores as water temperatures have hit their peak.
