Fisherman's Den

Tim at Fisherman’s Den said a few winter flounder up to 16 inches were reported from the Shark River over the weekend. “Three or four people said they caught them, and the guy with the 16-inch fish was very excited,” Tim said, noting that all the fish were caught from land. Some folks are using clam and worm in combo for bait, throwing leftover clam over for chum. But Tim said no one has been using a chum pot from shore. “They’ve been mixing a little bit of the clam with sand to get it to the bottom,” Tim noted, but I would imagine folks adding chum pots tied off from the bulkheads might find the action to improve. He also reported that the Ocean Explorer was still running for ling and cod, but the bite was pretty slow before all the wind came in over the weekend.

Tim at Fisherman’s Den said there are a lot of people trying for winter flounder by the bulkhead, a lot of worms are selling at this point. The only boat running out of the marina right now is the Ocean Explorer which is still catching ling. A few sunny days this week should be good for that winter flounder bite on the Shark River.

Tim over at the Fisherman’s Den said the Ocean Explorer is still sailing all month for tautog; she was out when we called on Monday. The shop is still selling white leggers and green crabs (and frozen bait) for folks still looking to score.
