Fisherman's Den

A call to the Fisherman’s Den over the weekend got us the rundown on the fishing in the Belmar and Shark River areas. Sources at the Den told us the fluke fishing really took a big jump in the inlet with decent numbers of keepers and plenty shorts being caught from Wednesday on. Likewise party boats started pulling good numbers of sea bass of local wrecks and snags with some the best fishing we have seen so far this spring. They also mentioned the good striped bass fishing to the north on the Shrewsbury Rocks on live eels and metal lip swimmers which are selling like hot cakes. They ended their report by saying that some weakfish were also caught in the Manasquan River around the mouth of the canal this past week.

A call to Fisherman’s Den got us the rundown on the fishing in Shark River and inlet this past week. Sources there told us it was a good week of fishing for a variety of fish. At the top of the list was an uptick in the fluke fishing in the inlet and river thanks to the recent nor’east winds that brought water temps a bit. In addition we were told that striped bass were in and out of the inlet with the tides and the fishing off the beaches in the area was also good during the week. Party boats saw an increase in the number of sea bass coming over the rails until the weather shut them down. Lastly we were told the weekend end weather put the fishing on hold and kept the number of anglers that were fishing down.
