Fisherman's Den

The bass fishing started to bounce back on Thursday and got better on Friday according to sources over at the Fisherman’s Den. They said by Saturday morning they heard rumors of bass being in the surf from Sandy Hook down to just north of the Shark River jetty, with 8th Street being the center of the fishing on Saturday morning. By Sunday the fishing had quieted down with only a few bass stopping by the inlet for breakfast. We were also told that the jetty at Shark Inlet was giving up some tog with a fair number of keepers being caught. Lastly we were told most the boats at Belmar had returned to the water by the weekend and were chasing the bass to the north of the inlet with very little success.

“Losing two weekends in the middle of October with a third storm bearing down on us is not good for our business,” said Marty over at said Marty over at the Fisherman’s Den. It’s for sure that the month of November is going to be the month to catch stripers this fall as things have been mostly delayed by the storms. By mid-October the first winter flounder were caught, the blackfishing along with some triggerfish were being caught off the rocks at the inlet, and sporadic reports of stripers being caught in the local surf were being heard. These were all signs of a good November, so keep your fingers crossed the weather cooperates in the eleventh month.
