Fisherman's Den

“It was an interesting week in the Belmar area,” said Tom over at the Fisherman’s Den. A few more winter flounder were caught thus past week and blackfishing remained good off the jetties, but you still had to pick through the shorts to get your one keeper. Anglers fishing the surf had an interesting problem with the stripers, he said, noting that striped bass were in close to the beaches but would perhaps would not hit because there were so many big bluefin tuna splashing around with in two hundred yards of the beaches. Party boats had the same problem with the tuna spooking the stripers, he said. Most of the fishing was to the north of the inlet, we were told.

We got a brief report from Tim over at the Fisherman’s Den who said party boats did not start sailing until the weekend and most of the week saw the jetty at the inlet too rough to fish. Before the blow and In between weather some tog were being caught off the inlet jetty and in the canal. A few winter flounder were also caught in the river.
