For our first look at the fishing in the central portion of the state we spoke with Amanda over at Jersey Hooker Outfitters. She told us most local lakes are seeing crappies start to come off the beds, while the bass have been on and off the beds because of the rains and water conditions. Hopefully the bass action will pick up in June and the crappie fishing will remain good. The one bright spot has been Manasquan Reservoir which is back at full pool and should really produce some good fishing in June. Likewise there are plenty of trout still left in all three trout rivers and the fishing should also be decent in June. Lastly she said the pickerel fishing which has been good all spring should continue to be decent in the cedar waters to the west of the shop, thanks to good water levels from the rains.

Andrew at Jersey Hooker Outfitters said fluke action remains consistent in the river. He heard that some anglers are going to the canal for sea bass, but they do not seem to be finding great action. Stripers and blues are bending rods in the canal. The back bays are holding stripers and blues too, as well as fluke. Andrew mentioned that high tide is the best time to go.

Fishing was also good in the central portion of the state according to Amanda over at Jersey Hooker Outfitters. She said the recent rains picked up water levels in the cedar ponds and bogs and extended the spring pickerel fishing which has been excellent on killies this spring. She also got good reports on the bass, crappie and panfishing in local waters such as Carasaljo, Manetta, Manasquan Reservoir and the Ocean County College Pond, Most of the fishing has been on minnows and small jigs tipped with Gulp and plasticbaits especially in the late afternoons. In addition she mentioned that trout reports have started to get scarce as more anglers are switching over to fluke fishing and along the coast.

Andrew at Jersey Hooker Outfitters said anglers have been catching bluefish, stripers, and fluke at River Front Park. Blues are being daily with stripers biting late at night. Some fluke are being caught in the bay. By Mantoloking Bridge, stripers and blues are bending rods. The inlet has been busy with a lot of fluke off the corner. Some blues are over there too. Bunker hasn’t moved into the bay yet. There is a lot of spearing in the water and blues and stripers are feeding on them at night. Crabbing is starting.
