Echoes of a good week of fishing were also heard at Julian’s Bait & Tackle. Jay said good amounts of bunker moved into the bay and there were all kinds of squid in the water. Fluke fishing got the best reports with the keeper ratio looking better and a decent amount of short giving angler’s action. Bottom fishing was up and down depending on the boat with some good fishing one day and others days seeing a lot of short fish, he said. The shop even got word of some croakers being caught and pods of blues on the feed.

Another person that told us it was a slow start to this past week’s fishing but it got better as the week progressed, was Jay over at Julian’s Bait & Tackle. The first few days of the week were really off however anglers started to trickle back in for bait and supplies about mid-week. Fluke fishing got better in the Shrewsbury and Navesink rivers from Wednesday on and the big stripers relocated to the Shrewsbury Rocks where they were dining on eels, needlefish and metal lip swimmers. The shop also got word that the bottom fishing was also improving with better numbers of sea bass and continued good ling fishing.

One of the oldest bait and tackle shops in the entire country, Julian’s Bait and Tackle has been providing anglers with solid advice, sound equipment and the freshest of bait since 1932. Experts on striped bass fishing in the Sandy Hook region along the northern coast of New Jersey, the crew at Julian’s Bait and Tackle is an essential source of local intel and a popular stop for anglers fishing out of Highlands, Atlantic Highlands and all along the Monmouth County beaches (with plenty of room for those trailering boats to the grounds). Innovators in the striper spoon game, it’s Joe Julian who has carefully watched over the Montauk Striper brand of spoons from its earliest days of production Highlands to what it is today; when it comes to spoons, wire line, trolling rods and rod holders designed and manufactured by Julian's specifically for striped bass, no one else even comes close.
