King Cod VII

May 11, 2026 - 10:33:53

On the King Cod VII out of Captree I heard from Capt. Joe who said fluke started off okay with the opening as anglers caught fish to 5 pounds throughout the week. Some days were a better than others, with fair results daily. On Sunday however, the action really lit up as there were already several limits caught before 8 a.m. when I spoke with Capt. Joe. Angler Brian Allen drilled the first mini doormat of the season at 8.7 pounds on the boats scale. The big flattie was 27-1/2 inches long and took a Gulp on a chicken rig in the State Channel. Hopefully Brian is a Fisherman Subscriber and will enter the fish in the Dream Boat Contest. The boat sails daily for bay fluke 6:30 a.m.

On the King Cod VII out of Captree I heard from Capt. Joe reported a very strong finish for the boat's 2026 spring blackfish season. The fish bit mad dog style the last 2 days the season was open. Hundreds of shorts bending rods. Lots of limit catches, and pool contenders in the 7-pound class. The regulations say it is now time to move on to fluke. The boat will be bay fluking every day 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and in the evenings 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily for the next couple of weeks. Light crowds are expected especially during the week, so shoot a text to 631-605-1404 to let them know you are coming, or for updates, reports, etc. The boat will be switching to their always popular, and productive fluke/sea bass combo trips early this year. They plan to kick those off on May 16.
