The charter boat Little Hawk got in a good week of striped bass fishing. Capt. Joe Occhipinti said he had to troll the bass on most of the trips in order to put together a catch. A pair of trips started the week off on Sunday the 14th with John and his party in the morning and the Nelson family on the afternoon trip with both enjoying a good pull of keepers. Doug and his charter on Monday and Stan and his group Tuesday morning also enjoyed a good troll of keepers and released plenty more fish. A Tuesday afternoon trip with Keith and his party kept the string of good fishing going, while a pair of trips on Friday also found good fishing. The crew finished up the week on Saturday the 20th with two more good pulls of mixed size bass.

“We got in four trips this past week starting with Chris and party who enjoyed a good day of striper fishing with fish to 25 pounds being caught and released,” cited Capt. Joe Occhipinti of the charter boat Little Hawk. Morning trips on Tuesday and Wednesday saw a fair catch of bigger fish which were released. Our Wednesday afternoon trip proved to be the best trip of the week with a good bite of keeper bass. “Then came the winds and weather,” Joe said.

Little Hawk Charters is a family-run business with 2 licensed captains (Capt. Joe Occhipinit Sr. and Jr.) with a total of 65 years of experience in fishing the Sandy Hook area. They run over 300 trips during a 7 month season and that should tell you something about their reputation. Little Hawk Charters also uses the latest equipment to maximize your success. All rods, reels and tackle are supplied and the captains never worry about how much fuel they use in pursuit of fish. They only use fresh sacks of clams (never frozen), carry plenty of eels and always have more than enough bait for any given trip. Your fish are kept on ice, filleted and bagged for you at the end of the trip. The deck hands are experienced and courteous and will tend to all of your needs. The Little Hawk itself is a 52 foot Sportfisherman, custom built in Harkers Island, NC and designed for fishing in complete comfort with parties of 1 to 17 people. It is a charter boat like no other in Atlantic Highlands. Some of her features include an 18 foot beam, twin 871 Detroit Diesel engines, two color LCD radars, color GPS plotter, three VHF radios, color fishfinder, Loran and Hailer, along with a large, comfortable, climate controlled cabin complete with a head, galley and color TV.
