Maco's Bait and Tackle

The word from Tony at Maco’s Bait & Tackle was of a steady tog bite for boaters from the nearby west end all the way out to the rockpiles around up around Marion, Fairhaven and Westport Harbor. The canal has been slow and the wind and rain have cut down on participation, yet Tony believes there will be a few more fish moving down from the Plymouth area to the east end of the canal where reports and catches of mackerel are still coming in. The freshwater fishing has been providing good trout action and a few late evening or early morning anglers are catching a few large brown trout for their efforts. They have all the bait and tackle you require to complete your season on a high note.

We spoke with Larry at Maco’s Bait & Tackle where green crabs were being shoveled into buckets which were on their way to Western Buzzards Bay. While only a few diehards have fished the canal with any regularity and only one of them caught a slot fish on a topwater, that being a pencil. The wind has killed a lot of effort but there were numerous customers talking about fishing for tog as long as they remain in the bay. One of them said his last resort was the area around Woods Hole on the south side of the Elizabeths.
