Maco's Bait and Tackle

It was a very busy weekend for Tony and the crew at Maco’s Bait & Tackle where many of their regular customers were coming in for bait, line and information. The tautog bite has been improving and the action as spread from the Maritime area to the West Falmouth shore up into Woods Hole where we heard rumors of a few fresh run schoolies caught on the Buzzards Bay side of that passage. The shop is loaded with gear and Tony said the freshwater fishing is really worth the effort to wet a line with the possibility of good numbers of trout over 14 inches and some very good bass fishing.

Tony at Maco’s Bait & Tackle said they have green crabs and seaworms and their customers are catching tog to legal size in the west end of the canal. There are herring in all the local runs but it will be at least another week before they show up in the much cooler waters of the canal run. Schoolies are being taken from holdover haunts from Westport to Wareham and some of the bigger runs on the Cape are counting their herring in the thousands. Tony and Larry can put you up to date on the most recent information in the canal where they expect to see the first stripers being caught some time by the end of the month.
