Capt. Lenny of Miss Barnegat Light reports a productive stretch of fluke fishing with a variety of species adding to the action. Monday started strong, with the first few drifts producing before the bite slowed. Sea bass were more prevalent around structure, while increasing numbers of bluefish and croakers are beginning to show. Wednesday followed a similar pattern, with a solid start before conditions changed and the action tapered off. Anglers did find some quality bluefish mixed in with the fluke, and a good supply of sand eels has been present in the area. Thursday delivered an excellent day on the water, with steady action from start to finish and a mix of keeper and short fluke coming aboard. Saturday brought another strong outing, with the bite improving once the breeze picked up and created a better drift. Fluke, bluefish, and croakers all contributed to the action. Sunday wrapped up the stretch with another great day, including some nice keeper fluke headed for the ice. Capt. Lenny noted that bluefish and croakers continue to fill in the gaps, with one species sometimes dominating the bite from day to day.
