Jill from the November Rain reported that Montauk's striped bass fishing has been absolutely red hot. The annual Captain Tim Murray Memorial Trip once again produced excellent action, with Captain Tim's family enjoying steady bass and bluefish fishing throughout the day. Gary Lake and his crew returned for their annual trip and found excellent action on diamond jigs, while the Kathryn Evans charter enjoyed steady catches of both striped bass and bluefish. Daran's group encountered plenty of bluefish but still managed several slot bass. The Peter Morley charter found fewer bluefish and loads of oversized bass before boxing several slots. Closing out the week, Julie, Emily, Noah Krupnick, and their father Matt continued a nearly 20-year tradition aboard the boat, heading home with a striped bass limit while releasing several additional slot fish and overs. The boat has openings available throughout June and will also be targeting tuna offshore later this summer. Call (646) 335-7315 for details.

Capt. Steve grew up spending much of his time with his grandfather, Robert (Bob) Lake, who eventually became his best friend. Bob was an avid fisherman himself and would tell both Capt. Steve and Capt. Jill many a story about his days in Montauk fishing on the Viking and his nights at Salivar’s. Steve’s introduction to fishing came at a young age, and once he started, he never stopped. Although Bob continued fishing for many years thereafter, he gradually moved away from fishing and began rod building, a “hobby” that he continued for years. To this day, Capt. Steve and Capt. Jill have an entire collection of beautifully built rods aboard the November Rain, from light to heavy tackle, most with Bob’s signature on them. Steve and Jill met over 20 years ago and they’ve been fishing together for almost as long, spending much of that time in Montauk. Their fishing adventures began when they started trailering their 22’ Mako to Montauk, first for a weekend, then for a week and then for a few weeks. Their next boat, a 28 foot BHM, would be docked in Montauk for half the season and then eventually, a full season. In 2003, they took the leap into the charter business and started November Rain Charters. Later on in 2004 they purchased the current November Rain, a 35 foot Young Brothers. Capt. Steve and Capt. Jill don’t claim to be more knowledgeable than other captains, nor will they tell you that they’ll catch more fish than any other boat. What they will tell you, however, is that if you fish with them, they will try their absolute best to make sure you have a great day and go home with a great catch.
