Ol’ Salty II

A call to Capt. Nick Caruso of the Ol’ Salty II got us another, “we did not sail all week due to this crazy storm.” Nick said the water in Belmar was very high because of the storm and the full moon only added to the grief. The entire parking lot was flooded and at its heights it was flooded all the way to the Den. He jokingly said you could pull right up to the edge of the water and cast a line and catch fish in the parking lot. He expects water conditions to return to close to normal by Tuesday or Wednesday and intends to resume bottom fishing when it does this week.

When I spoke to Capt. Nick Caruso of the Ol’ Salty II and Big Kid on September 20 he said it looks like we are going to lose the entire last full week of September because of the nor’easter. He said the weather conditions really put a dent in his sailing schedule, especially his tuna trips in the ninth month. He told us the Salty will be bottom fishing in October and will also mix in striper fishing when the bass show up in good numbers. The boat will also keep trying to fish mid-range and offshore for tuna weather permitting.
