The word from John Bullock over at Old School Outdoors in Ewing told us of falling water temps and most of the bass, crappie and panfishing in local lakes and ponds has shifted to live bait. Some waters are also producing crappies and perch on small jig combinations. While a few waters saw a boost in the trout fishing from the winter stocking fishing pressure was light this past week because of the holiday. Reports coming from the river are telling of slow fishing for walleyes and smallies due to low and cold water temps in the lower 40s.

While smallmouth fishing has slowed down as water temps in the river cooled down, we are still getting reports of largemouth, crappies and yellow perch being caught in local lakes and ponds, reported John Bullock over at Old School Outdoors in Ewing. Amwell Lake will be stocked as part of the winter trout stocking program and this should give the trout fishing a boost this coming week. John said the recently held Two-Year Anniversary Fishing contest was a big success. First place went Robert Golazewski for an 18-inch largemouth; second place was taken by Tim Keenan with a 17-1/4-inch largemouth. Sean Sullivan ‘had a 17-inch crappie, James Worthington a 14-inch crappie and Robert Golaszewski a 12-1/2- inch crappie for the top panfish. William Welsh had an 11-1/2-inch yellow perch.
