Quonnie Bait and Tackle

Abbie at Quonnie Bait and Tackle heard several reports of bass being caught from the breachway and up inside of the salt ponds this past week. The fishing is a bit hit or miss, but is trending in the right direction. Tautog reports are slowly improving with more keepers this past week. The best reports seem to be from shallower water, and it pays to move around if you are not having success. Not much for fluke along the beaches yet, but they have been reported out around Block Island and Montauk. Squid are starting to show up around Newport which means they should move in locally soon.

Abbie at Qonnie Bait and Tackle has been hearing reports of freshly arrived, lice covered striped bass being caught from the beaches and breachways. You can also likely find bass back in the salt ponds where worm hatches should be starting up soon. Tautog fishing still seems a little slow but will improve as the water warms up a bit more. There have been reports of some winter flounder being caught on sand worms in the local salt ponds. Nothing to report for squid yet but they should be moving into the area soon.
