Trout fishing saw a nice resurgence this past week thanks to the recent rains, said Don over at Ramsey Outdoors. Reports coming into the store are telling of good fly fishing in the Gorge and some good trout action in the Rockaway, Pequest, Ramapo and Wanaque rivers. Here too we were told of decent fishing in Lake Hopatcong for hybrids, walleyes, largemouth and smallmouth.

The good reports continued to roll in when we spoke with Don over at Ramsey Outdoors. It was nonstop reports of good striped bass fishing in Raritan Bay and the waters off and down from the Hook this past week, Don said. While trolling is still the top method of taking the bigger bass, for the most part the linesiders are hitting just about anything you put in front of them. Once the waters settled down from the noreasters the sea bass fishing exploded and this years run of big knuckleheads continued to fill coolers, he added.

Northern trout streams continue to give anglers some late spring fishing cited Don at Ramsey Outdoors. In particular the Rockaway, Wanaque, Ramapo and the Gorge are seeing plenty of hold overs and are fishing well for fly fishermen. The bass are still on the beds in most local ponds and lakes, and panfishing has been good just about everywhere.

Stripers and sea bass fishing was also at the top of the list when we spoke with Don over at Ramsey Outdoors. He said striped bass tackle has been selling at a quick place and its been tough to replace the gear on the shelves. Boats fishing outside have been into some of the best sinker bouncing in recent years with plenty of legal sea bass, big ling, along with some whiting and winter flounder.
