Flounder are being caught everywhere according to this week’s report from Scott at Scott’s Dock. From the piers and ICW behind Margate out to the reefs, and everywhere in between, customers are reporting lots of flatfish action. The reefs have been giving up keepers to 6- pounds while the back bay is loaded with short fish. Case in point, one trip this week on the Captain Robin resulted in over 100 fish being caught. Of those 100 or so fish, clients managed to find a half dozen keepers. Not a great keeper ratio, but plenty of action for everyone on board. Rental boaters and private boaters echo this sentiment, with lots of action but it is hard to find a keeper fish unless fishing in the ocean. The back bay does have one species that the open ocean lacks, and that is sheepshead. Anglers tucked up under the bridges found a great bite this week on sandfleas with fish nearing the 10-pound mark.

Scott at Scott’s Dock reports that the flounder bite has picked up a bit this week. His rental boat customers, slip holders and the Captain Robin has all reported great action on short fish, plus some keepers too. While the keeper ratio might be low, no one is complaining about 60 fish per trip on the Captain Robin with a few keepers thrown in. The keepers have been very decent size fish, many of which are between 20 and 22 inches. Two exceptional flounder were brought to the scales this week, one hitting the 6-pound mark, and one just a hair shy of 9 pounds.
