Ray Scott’s Dock

Those fishing the inshore wrecks this week brought home limits of flounder to 5 pounds according to Scott at Scott’s Dock. Larger bucktails tipped with salmon strips or Gulp grubs were the preferred bait which also discouraged smaller fish from biting. Smaller fish seem to be mostly what's left right now in the back bays of Margate. There is plenty of action here with dozens of short fish per trip and only some anglers reporting a keeper out of all those fish. The back bays are producing some sheepshead and tog for anyone fishing sandfleas or green crabs along the bridges, docks and sod banks. There have also been plenty of croakers and some spot being caught along the ICW on bloodworms, Fishbites and clam.

Scott at Scott’s Dock tells us that the wrecks and reefs have been very good for flounder the last few weeks. Plenty of keeper fish to 5 pounds were falling for large Gulp or strips of mackerel fished on ball jigs and bucktails. Anglers are also reported spotting cobia at random spots while out in the ocean flounder fishing, so many are making sure to put some live eels aboard whenever venturing offshore. The back bay has been seeing much of the same type of action for the past month or so. Baby sea bass, sea robins, croakers, spot and short flounder make up the majority of the catch. The Captain Robin has been reporting that rods are staying bent and there are even a few keeper size flounder in the mix. Lastly, Scott says that the sheepshead and tog action is very good around the bridges and he even caught a keeper flounder on a light tog jig tipped with a sandflea.
