Captain Mike Roy at Reel Cast Charters emailed over his report to say, “Fishing has been improving with the warmer weather, the stripers are becoming more active and we actually had a few big fish in the mix, including one over 20 pounds. I’m expecting that, as the water temperature continues to rise, we should start to see an improvement in the topwater bite as well. Captain Mike Roy at Reel Cast Charters kicked off their season over the weekend. They started the year off targeting holdover stripers in the rivers. Captain Mike Roy is the founder and operator of Reel Cast Charters, a full-time fishing charter based out of Connecticut. His angling pursuits have taken him across country, as well as internationally, fishing in both fresh and salt water from large mouth bass to giant bluefin tuna. An innovative angler, he is constantly applying new techniques, and his enthusiasm and passion for the sport are contagious. Captain Mike is a United States Coast Guard OUPV Licensed Captain and graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor’s and Masters Degree in Education. Reel Cast charters operates 3 boats including a Conch 27 which was designed by a group of professional fishing guides from Key West, FL and a world-renowned naval architect. The Conch 27 is widely considered to be the most capable boat under 30 feet and is the only boat that is truly designed for fishing guides. It is capable of fishing both inshore and offshore. The boat only draws 16 inches of water, yet can ride through rough seas and is extremely stable at drift. The Conch is powered by a single 300 Suzuki four stroke and has a top speed of 45 mph. The boat has 200 gallons of live-well space making it the ultimate boat for live bait fishing. This is a boat you must fish on to believe it! Our boats meet all U.S. Coast Guard Safety regulations and are equipped with the latest and greatest electronics from Humminbird: Mega Side & Down Imaging, Chirp Sonar, radar, and Minn Kota trolling motor with I-pilot link & Spot Lock technology. We use the best rods, reels & line available from Shimano, G Loomis, and Power Pro.
