The striper chew in the surf has been ongoing for three weeks straight now according to Andy of Riptide Bait and Tackle in Brigantine. Spots at the jetty, North End and the cove were all primed with activity as bass are readily hitting both fresh and salted clams along with bunker chunks. Some bluefish up to 9 pounds were also hitting the clam baits and black drum are sucking down Riptide Rotters as well.

Capt. Andy at Riptide Bait and Tackle tells us that the three week striper streak continues with fish all along the beachfront this week. Fresh or salted clam, it didn’t matter as anglers continue to “rock” the stripers from the jetty and beach. More keeper size fish were caught this week plus plenty of oversize fish to 45 inches. A few drum and blues were also caught and the leaderboard for the Riptide Spring Derby moved all around yet again. Between all this striper action and the less than driftable weather this week, all was quiet on the flounder grounds.

Riptide Rotter clams - whether fresh or salted - are absolutely slamming stripers in the Brigantine surf according to Andy at Riptide Bait and Tackle. The chew has been ongoing for two weeks straight and shows no signs of slowing down both with quantity and quality of fish. Black drum began to bang around again this week eating up the clam baits on the full moon tides.

Plenty of stripers in and around Brigantine according to Capt. Andy with Riptide Bait and Tackle. The famous Riptide Rotter (surf clams) have been the top bait this week whether fishing the surf, jetty, inlet or back bays. Stripers to 48 inches were landed with some keepers in the slot range being weighed into the Spring Surf Derby keeping the leaderboard moving. With all the fresh clam being slung around, the drumfish are also responding and those leaderboard spots are changing hands weekly. Even with all this action, many anglers are looking forward to Monday, May 4th for the flounder season opener. Capt. Andy is stocked up with live minnows, Gulp, mackerel fillets, spearing and squid.
