From Roger Aziz, Jr., in Methuen we heard that snow in the Northeast Wildlife District is so deep it is preventing ice-fishermen from accessing popular fishing spots. Recent milder weather melted some of the snow pack, but in many places it is still nearly knee deep and exhausting to walk through. Fishing has been kind of slow although Bald Pate Pond has been pretty good for trout. Lakes and ponds in New Hampshire are easier to access since so many people on snowmobiles have packed down the snow and created trails. According to New Hampshire reports, Lake Winnipesaukee, Winnisquam Lake, Newfound Lake, and Mirror Lake are producing good numbers of trout, and smallmouth bass, and Kingston Lake in Kingston has been hot for crappies peaking at 2.5 pounds. Rog expects these venues to continue to produce in March.
