Roger Aziz, Jr., in Methuen said lesser ponds in the Northeast Wildlife District are yielding small largemouth bass along with an occasional larger specimen thrown in. He fished Rock Pond in Georgetown, and in addition to little largies, he popped one weighing 4 pounds on his very first cast. At Baldpate Pond he logged several largemouths on a large swim bait. Along the Merrimack River smallmouth bass action remains excellent in the Lowell -to-Lawrence stretch and the Hooksett, New Hampshire, section.

Roger Aziz, Jr., in Methuen continues to catch smallmouth bass up to 13 inches on white spinnerbaits, Aziz-rigged Senkos, and Whopper Ploppers in the Merrimack River below the dam in Lawrence all the way to Haverhill. The same stretch is also yielding largemouth bass. Not many other anglers have been fishing the river below the dam, but above the dam is a different story: lots of fishermen. As good as the action is in the section he has been fishing, Rog reiterated that more and bigger bass are being taken in the Hooksett, New Hampshire, portion of Merrimack River. Also in the Granite State, Big Island Pond, Newfound Lake, and Lake Winnipesaukee are still churning out plenty of big largemouth and smallmouth bass on Senkos and jigs. You have to be on the water very early in the morning because watercraft traffic becomes extremely heavy by midmorning.
