Mike at Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip let me know it’s been summer fishing as usual. The sharks and rays are being caught at Moses, Smith Point and Gilgo while fluke continue to be caught inside the Fire Island Inlet from the shoreline. Some small snappers are starting to get caught from the docks in the Islip area.

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip I heard the fluke action remained very good inside the bay with a lot of fish caught, and plenty of keepers to go around. The shop also heard of fluke on the outside pieces, with sea bass action really gaining speed too. Back inside the bay, stripers, albeit mostly small, can be had on clams at the Moses Bridge or with soft plastics after dark. Offshore, again this week was find the clean water and you will find a good yellowfin bite. On the docks, small crabs, with some larger ones caught by sharpies has been the word.

Mike at Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip let me know its summer surf mode now. Scattered bass are being caught on the open beach stretch at Cedar and Robert Moses beaches and the sharks and rays moved into both area to boot. Fluke can still be picked on the inside of the Fire Island Inlet from the shoreline on bucktails tipped with Gulp.

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip I heard there is a good fluke bite in the bay, with anglers seeing more and more keepers, and fish over 5 pounds. If you want striped bass grab some clams and clam chum and hit the rips or bridges. On the offshore scene, bluefin and yellowfin can be found close the 110 Square area.

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip the report was good from the docks, beach and by boat. James J. had an 8.1-pound fluke caught while fishing the beach! Ronnie Gator had a bluefish of 7 pounds on Sunday fishing the docks. Fluke are in all the normal haunts, with fish to 24 inches reported by boaters. Clam bellies and clam chum is producing stripers under the bridges. The sea bass action outside was good with some large knuckleheads caught after the seas settled. On the weakfish front, Pete G. had a fish of 5 pounds, 11 ounces.
