Mike at Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip let me know he’s getting some very solid “sand beach” reports from his customers. He noted that some of these reports have been coming from the Robert Moses stretch of beach. Bucktails and swim shads have gotten the nod recently from the casters. The docks inside the bay in the West Islip and Babylon areas have been seeing some action with fish up to 31 inches. If you can find some fresh bunker, that has been a go-to bait,

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip I heard there were good reports of stripers again this week with slot and undersize fish roaming Great South Bay, on the north and south sides. The north side by the bay bridge and the local creeks have been good while the typical south side hot spots have been along South Beach to the Moses Bridge. Blackfish action is okay in the bay with several anglers reporting a few keepers. No word on flounder this week.

Mike at Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip let me know aside from the ongoing bit on the west end of the island, he did know of some smaller striper on the north side of the bay, near the shop. The docks in Islip and Lindenhurst were a good choice for connecting with a few fish in the morning or evening. Soaking sandworms on the bottom was a good choice but casting and retrieving NLBN soft plastics or anything similar proved to have good success as well.

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip I heard the bass action continues to build in the bay with the bay bridge and Moses Bridge producing fish from school size and slightly larger. Soft plastics, hard baits and slowly retrieved topwaters have worked well. Mike also heard of some blackfish in the bay, but as always, you need to weed through for a keeper. The shop is fully stocked and ready for the 2024 season so come on down before you head out.
