Mike at Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip reported a steady showing of smaller bluefish along the beaches in his area. Sore Thumb, Democrat Point, and Cedar Beach have all produced action, with small poppers and metals proving effective during daylight hours. There is still a pick of striped bass after dark at Demo and Cedar for anglers throwing swimming plugs and soft plastics. Fluke fishing remains consistent around the Moses Bridge area, where bucktails tipped with Gulp and other soft plastics continue to take fish.

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip I heard of small blues throughout the bay – they are smaller snapper blues, usually a pound or less, but still fun. The fluke action is west in the State Channel, with the Meadowbrook and Wantagh bridge areas the better spots. Mackerel schools are outside with stripers on the chase. Back inside Great South, fluke action is tough go.

Mike at Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip reported another productive week of striped bass fishing along the usual Ocean Parkway beaches. Darters, SP Minnows, and Mag Darters have been producing consistently after dark, while snap-jigging soft plastics has been working very well at Cedar Beach whenever wind and surf conditions allow anglers to fish effectively.

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip I heard the action remained spotty all week with fluke throughout the bay, depending on tide, with anglers catching shorts and keepers. The shop did weight in several good fish this week, with one just over 7 pounds. On the bass front, head outside the inlet and tangle with fish using flutter spoons in 9-inch chrome. Weakfish are getting active to the east in all the typical haunts. The shop is fully loaded, including all the flutter spoons you will need for some hot action.
