Mike at Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip let me know fluking off the piers in the Fire Island Inlet are has been productive with bucktail and Gulp combos for fish up to 4 pounds. He knew of some bass into the slot being picked at Demo after dark but also knew that some bigger fish are being caught from the South Shore inlets east of his store after dark as well. Smaller bluefish have been chewing at Cedar during the day.

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip I heard fluke action remained good with the State Channel your best place for keepers and plenty of shorts. If you want weakfish, the early a.m. bite at Ocean Beach is best with smaller, bright colored soft plastics your best option, unless you can get some grass shrimp! Stripers are at the Moses Bridge sucking down clams. On the outside, thresher sharks can be had but the tuna bite is quiet.

Mike at Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip let me know John had a 9.8-pound fluke off one of the piers in the Fire Island area on a bucktail/Gulp combo. Aside from that, the fluke fishing had been a steady pick from most other shore and docks spots within the inlet with that same setup. Stripers have slowed down to a night bite only at Demo and Cedar. For those throwing chunks during the day it has either been cocktail bluefish or dogfish.

At Saltwaters Bait and Tackle in West Islip I heard of good weakfish reports to 5-1/2 pounds from Ocean Beach. There are some fluke still in the State Channel. Smaller blues are roaming the bay, with the occasional bass. Your best bet for fluke is to fish the drains in the State Channel as the outgoing waters push the warmer water and bait.
