Perch action continues to be very good in the Mullica and even in some of the Mystic Island Creeks according to customers at Scott’s Bait and Tackle. Most are fishing bloodworms, but grass shrimp have been taking some really jumbo fish up a pound. Flounder fishing in the bay was steady this week when boaters could get out and hide from the winds. Live minnows, speaking and Gulp baits all accounted for a large number of short fish and a handful of keepers to 22 inches.

Perch action was really good this week according to reports from Scott’s Bait and Tackle. Grass shrimp were the top bait and anglers were finding fish in the bay creeks and in the lagoons behind Mystic Island. Crabbing is also taking off in the same areas as the crabs are just about past their shed. The deeper channels in the bay were holding more keeper flounder this week with fish to 24 inches reported on minnows, squid, and bucktails tipped with Gulp.

Customers of Scott’s Bait and Tackle tell us that the perch fishing was really good this week. Anglers were finding fish in the narrow bay creeks, the Mystic Island Lagoons and in the Mullica River. Grass shrimp continue to be the best baits you can use, but bloodworms are a close second. Reports of flounder action in the bay runs hot and cold depending on the source and day of the week. Early in the week, anglers were talking about 10 to 15 fish per trip with a couple of keepers in the mix. After the rain and winds got a hold of us, those numbers dipped dramatically with the only flounder trip highlights being some bycatch blues to 4 pounds.
