Sports Port

The weather was beginning to improve as we spoke with Chris from the Sports Port who told us customers were running to the canal for the great action that has taken place over the past few weeks. There were reports of good tautog and scup fishing in the rips and on Bishops and Clerks and Colliers Ledge as well as word of small blues along the shore and inside the groins at Bass River and Cotuit. Freshwater fishing has been red hot since the last state stocking and largemouth bass and pickerel were also being taken in good numbers and sizes. Stop in for those hip boots or waders you’ve been wanting.

Our friend Morgan is out of school and back to the place she loves to work. Shortly after arriving she and Amy went squidding in Hyannis last night and after admiring their two coolers of squid they took the time to rid themselves of the scent and ink that squid fishing is known for. The ladies used an assortment of their Yo-Zuri squid jigs which the Sports Port stocks along with numerous other squid jigs and Sabiki rigs. The stripers have arrived in good numbers, and they are being caught from the canal to the Falmouth Beaches as well as into all the inlets and the harbors up to and beyond both sides of Hyannis and the rips. Morgan also had word that a few of the head boats had located some squid in the Vineyard Sound area. Their Osterville shop will be opening on or before Memorial Day weekend so if you are in the area pay them a visit.
