“We didn’t see a lot of boats go in the water until mid-week when things started picking up,” said Paulie over at Wagner’s Marina. Fluke fishing in the bay has been tough so some boats have been fishing for sea bass. Those that have been fishing for the knuckleheads have been reporting having to pick through a lot of shorts to get a limit of keepers. He said crabs have been around the pilings at the marina and when you catch them they are ice cold which tells you how cold the water still is this late in the spring.

It was an up and down week for boats sailing out of Wagner’s Marina. Mike said it took some time for the effects of last weekend’s weather to settle down and even longer for people to get their interest back. Then we had to put up with off and on winds most of the week with Saturday being the worst. A few boats started to go outside of the jumbo bass that were there, however fluke fishing was still hit or miss in the bay. “The sea bass fishing really turned hot by mid-week on the snags and wrecks south of the Hook, however it to took a beating in Saturday’s winds,” Mike said.
