Mike Wade at Watch Hill Outfitters continues to hear reports of good fishing for striped bass on the local reefs and along the south side of Fishers Island. Out around Block Island, the bass fishing has also been very good with lots of fish in the 20- to 40-pound class being caught and released. Fluke fishing seems to finally be picking up a bit locally with more keepers being caught in 30- to 50-feet of water off the beaches. There were also better reports for fluke from areas around Block and Montauk this past week. Bottom fishing for black sea bass and scup has also been picking up. Boats that headed offshore to the canyons this past week reported finding good numbers of yellowfin tuna along with some big eye and bluefin. Fishing for bluefin on the inshore and midshore areas haven’t really taken off yet but there have been reports of fish being caught.

Mike Wade at Watch Hill Outfitters reported a very good week of fishing for striped bass both locally and out around Block Island. There are some very big fish being caught especially around the island and many customers reported catching their personal best fish this past week. Along with the bass, we are starting to see a good number of bluefish around. Fluke fishing has really been a grind so far this season with slow reports both locally and out around Block and Montauk. There are fish out there but most anglers targeting them are putting in a good amount of time for maybe a few keeper-sized fish. Fishing for black sea bass is producing well in terms of numbers but not a ton of keepers around yet. Scup fishing is really starting to get good and offers a reliable way to bring home some meat for the table. Offshore, there have been reports of yellowfin and some bigeye out in the canyons and bluefin are starting to move in on the mid and near-shore grounds.
