Mike at Watch Hill Outfitters said the shop will be closed this week and won’t open again until March. He was still hearing about some solid striped bass action in and around the Thames River though, which bodes well for the rest of the winter for local striper diehards. The overarching theme with these stripers is that there has been a ton of small bait around, the consensus being that they are spearing, this cold snap will likely push the bait and bass further into the rivers. Local freshwater action has been good for the few guys who are actually going, trout fishing has been good in local ponds like Meadow Brook Pond and Carbuncle.
