Tog action in the bay and from the oceanfront rock piles was really good this week according to the crew at Waterfront Marine. There are simply tons of short fish out there, but after culling through up to two dozen shorts, that one keeper comes along and they have been quality fish in the 16- to 19-inch size range. Green crabs and sand fleas have been the top baits. Tog are also being caught on the nearshore wrecks as anglers target sea bass. The sea bass fishing was good on the days when the weather cooperated this week with fish to 3 pounds and several boaters reporting bag limits.

It was a good week to fish the bay and the back bays for blues, croakers and spot according to Waterfront Marine. All of these fish are filling the void that the end of flounder season left. Simple top-bottom rigs, small hooks, and either clam, squid, bloodworms or Fishbites, will get you plenty of each of the above species. Both the croakers and the spot are some of the largest we’ve seen this season. The blues are ranging from 1 to 3 pounds on average, with some larger fish, to 8 pounds reported closer to the inlet on live spot.
