The Fisherman welcomes Capt. Carl of Westport River Outfitters who runs a seaworthy 24-foot Hydrosport Vector out of Westport Harbor and fishes all of Buzzards Bay, as well as Vineyard and Block Island Sounds. He also trailers to other destinations, wherever the bite calls. He specializes in striped bass, tautog and black sea bass. He was just wiping the grease from his hands after lubricating the wheel bearings on his trailer when we spoke. He figures the first fresh run bass are about a week away and the tautog should begin filling in on the on the nearshore rockpiles not far from the harbor. Give him a call and set up a date to explore the areas he is very familiar with.

Talked to Carl of Westport River Outfitters who was ready to do some touch ups on his trailer now that the warmer weather has come around. Over the past week he’s been checking the local herring runs and seeing some guy’s fishing some of the estuaries. Easter Day he was out and saw a definite increase of herring over this past week, with several of them lining the shoreline that had been recently preyed upon. Several guys were out targeting white perch with some success. He’s waiting for the fall season to target tautog but getting ready fast-approaching Black Seabass season that opens May 17th. Until then you might see him out going on the shoreline targeting holdovers as we await our more migratory fish which seem to be only a couple weeks away.
