Bryce from White Water Outfitters said albies have been the headline species around Shinnecock Inlet over the past week, with both spin and fly fishermen getting into the action from the rocks. Small, fast-moving offerings have been the ticket when the fish push into casting range. Bluefish are also moving through the inlet at times, while fluke remain a worthwhile target from the back-side rocks. The mix of albies, blues and fluke has been keeping anglers busy around the inlet even as the fall striper bite begins to build.

Bryce from White Water Outfitters in Hampton Bays reported good numbers of albies around Shinnecock Inlet, providing fast-paced opportunities for anglers throwing small metals, epoxy jigs and other compact offerings. The tuna bite has slowed, although a few fish are still being encountered. Fluke fishing remains solid inside Shinnecock Bay, with a mix of shorts and keepers, while some striped bass are now beginning to show inside the bay and around the inlet.

Bryce from White Water Outfitters said bluefish have been moving through Shinnecock Inlet on most tides, providing fairly consistent action. False albacore, Spanish mackerel and bonito have also been making good showings inside the inlet, creating a mixed-bag fishery for casters throwing metals and small epoxy-style offerings. Fluke are beginning to stage along the back corners of the inlet, where they are picking off bait being swept through with the current. Bryce has also started hearing reports of striped bass feeding along some of the shorelines inside the bay, an encouraging sign as the fall pattern continues to develop.

Bryce from White Water Outfitters in Hampton Bays reported plenty of exciting developments around Shinnecock, led by the arrival of false albacore and green bonito. Spanish mackerel and bluefish are mixed in as well, and Bryce said the action has not been especially tide-dependent thanks to an incredible amount of bait packed into the area. Striped bass are also beginning to show in better numbers at certain locations inside the bay, with anglers starting to connect with them. Fluke are concentrating around Shinnecock Inlet and immediately outside of it as they stage around the moving bait. The reef is also producing some quality fish, although anglers have had to work a little harder to put together a catch. Offshore, yellowfin have been showing in the 25- to 40-mile range with scattered bluefin mixed in. Over in Peconic, weakfish are providing another option around Roses Grove, with some fish measuring to about 22 inches.
