Scott at Yakitty Yaks Kayaks reported that the back bays continue to provide reliable action for striped bass and bluefish, with anglers finding steady opportunities to bend a rod throughout the system. Fluke fishing, however, remains somewhat inconsistent. While a handful of quality fish are being caught, the overall bite is still slower than expected for this point in the season. Anglers are working for their catches, but the potential for improvement is certainly there. On the nearshore wrecks, sea bass action has been excellent, with plenty of fish stacked over structure and some impressive-sized knotheads mixed into the catches. The biggest thing anglers are waiting on now is the arrival of spot. Reports indicate they have already begun showing up in parts of South Jersey, and once those baitfish push farther north, Scott expects the fluke bite to kick into a much higher gear.

Scott at Yakitty Yaks Kayaks reported that the fluke bite is slowly but steadily improving despite dramatic swings in water temperatures that have made conditions somewhat unpredictable. Anglers willing to stay mobile and work productive areas are beginning to see more consistent results as the fish settle into their seasonal patterns. Sea bass fishing on the nearshore wrecks has been excellent, with anglers finding plenty of action and a solid mix of quality-sized fish. The combination of steady catches and respectable keeper ratios has made for some rewarding trips close to shore. Throughout the area, striped bass and bluefish remain abundant, providing kayak anglers with plenty of opportunities for exciting light-tackle action. Adding to the variety, weakfish ranging from 10 to 18 inches have also been showing up, giving anglers another species to target while working the bays, rivers, and nearshore waters.
