FISHING SEMINARS THIS WEEK AT AC BOAT SHOW

One of the fishiest boat shows in the region, you’ll find hundreds of new boats and an unbeatable assortment of marine gear at the Atlantic City Boat Show from February 3-7 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

The show kicks off on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the first of 18 ‘how to’ fishing seminars kicking off at 1 p.m. with Brian Favre of Martek Marine Electronics talking about using ‘AIS’ to your advantage on the fishing grounds. The Fisherman’s Jim Hutchinson, Jr. is on immediately afterwards with a talk on Great Bay Weakfish, followed by a summer flounder spotlight Capt. Brett Taylor of Reel Reaction Sportfishing at 4 p.m.

On Thursday, February 4th at 1 p.m., there’s a seminar on catching and tagging fluke with ‘Bucktail Willie” Shillingford, followed by at 2:30 pm talk on Matching Rod to Fish with Rich Hedenberg of RH Custom Rods. At 4 p.m. Thursday it’s Structure Fishing with Dan Shafer of Lowrance Electronics.

On Friday at 2 p.m., The Fisherman’s Nick Honachefsky will talk up * inshore, back bay and surf sharking, while Capt. Fran Verdi of Francesca Marie Sportfishing will hit the stage at 3:30 in a ‘how to’ presentation on South Jersey striped bass. If you’re looking to get offshore this season, pick up a few tips with Capt. Franz Hueber of Libation Charters out of Cape May at 5 p.m.

The Saturday lineup includes Gary Caputi (Bucktail Black Sea Bass) at 11 a.m., with doormat fluke at 12:30 p.m. with Capt. Harvey Yenkinson of Cape May’s Vetcraft Sportfishing. Another Cape May skipper is on at 2 p.m., it’s Capt. Steve Bent of Raymarine & Free Spirit Charters talking tuna electronics, followed by a special talk with U.S. Recreational Alternate Commissioner to International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), Ray Bogan at 3 p.m. If you’ve ever had any questions about worldwide management of tuna, shark and marlin, Bogan travels around the world to represent U.S. recreational interests, and at 3 p.m. he’ll be traveling to Atlantic City to speak with anglers.

That’s followed by a special presentation by noted tournament winner Capt. Mike Yocco of MJ’s Charters at 4 p.m., who’ll provide amazing insight into bigeye tuna fishing. Capt. Yocco and his MJ’s team have been targeting bigeye for several seasons, and can help provide you and your crew with valuable insight into this amazing fishery.

On Sunday, February 7th, the super seminar lineup continues at 11 a.m. with Wreck fishing by Capt. Adam Nowalsky of Karen Ann II charters out of Atlantic City, a port that has seen some amazing blackfish catches to start the 2016 season. A unique Safety and Seat seminar with John McLaughlin of Sea Tow in Atlantic City will begin at 12:30, followed by a Central/North Jersey tautog talk with noted skipper Capt. Jerry Postorino of Fish Monger Charters. At 3:30 on Sunday, go on the hunt for doormat fluke with Capt. Scott Newhall of Time Out Charters and a regular Fisherman contributor.

Show hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
