Long Island anglers are known to have a lot of patience but no matter how easy-going one might be the saga of Green Island access pushed things to the limit. After a decade of waiting, however, anglers can finally enjoy legal access to Sloop Channel and surrounding areas for Green Island is finally open. Hallelujah!
From the Green Island access site, shore anglers can now legally probe Sloop Channel and the prime fishing area under the Sloop Channel Bridge (third Wantagh Bridge) where a new fishing pier has been constructed. Of course, you’ll still need a New York State Sportfishing Permit or Beach Vehicile Permit to park here, but with that secured, you’ll be able to target fluke, blues, stripers and other species both day and night.
