ICE FISHING, BOAT SHOW AND FLEA MARKET

ICE FISHING SEMINAR

So far this winter, the weather has not been very conducive to ice fishing but that could certainly change over the course of the next several weeks. Whether it does or not, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 1 I FISH NY program is holding an Indoor Ice Fishing seminar this Wednesday, February 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. The seminar will take place at the DEC Region 1 Headquarters located at 50 Circle Road, Stony Brook, NY 11742.

The seminar will be a great introduction to equipment needed for ice fishing, important safety precautions, and fish handling techniques. It is geared for beginners as well as experienced anglers wanting to break into ice fishing. DEC’s I Fish New York staff will cover ice safety, equipment, fish handling, and rules and regulations. The course will prepare participants to safely ice fish across New York State.

Pre-registration required and participation will be capped at 30 people. Call the DEC’s freshwater fisheries unit at 631-444-0283 or email IfishNY.dec.ny.gov to register. You can go to https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/95106.html for a list of statewide ice fishing opportunities.
