KAYAK FISHING CLASSIC ON JAMAICA BAY - The Fisherman

KAYAK FISHING CLASSIC ON JAMAICA BAY

One of the region’s largest kayak fishing tournaments, the Kayak Fishing Classic on Jamaica Bay, hosted by Captain Kayak, is set to take place from May 18 to 21 at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. Premier sponsors include Hobie Kayaks and The Fisherman Magazine.

This is a charity event, with proceeds going to Heroes On The Water, Send A Kid Fishing, the Sport Fishing Education Center and the New York Sportfishing Alliance. All of those who participate in this event help support these worthwhile charities and organizations. This is entirely a catch and release event, and is one of just a few qualifying events in the United States for the 7th Annual Hobie Fishing World Championship.

The tournament kicks off on Thursday, May 18th with a pre-fishing day, followed by check-in from 5 to 7 p.m. Please note that there is no on-site registration. All participants must be pre-registered in order to participate in the tournament. Captains meetings will be held at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday. Fishing times are noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 5 a.m. to noon on Sunday. The awards ceremony follows the end of fishing at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Striped bass, bluefish, weakfish and possibly fluke, depending on the date of this year’s opening, will be targeted by the 400-plus anglers who participate in the event.

The Kayak Fishing Classic on Jamaica Bay draws anglers from up and down the East Coast. It is a great opportunity to share ideas and techniques with anglers from other areas, a great place to make new friends and visit with old ones, all while contributing to a host of worthy causes. For those who are passionate about the sport of kayak fishing, this is one event that can’t be missed. Captain Jerry and his crew go to great lengths to ensure that all participants have a safe, fun and successful tournament experience
