CARE (Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education) is a program run by the CT DEEP (Department of Energy and Environmental Protection) whose goal is to introduce new anglers and families to the exciting sport of fishing. Throughout the year, CARE provides classes on many different styles of fishing and target species. The classes include where to go, what to use and the necessary precautions to be taken to ensure a safe day on the water. Courses range form brief overviews to in-depth, multi-day events and are a great opportunity for adults and children alike. The instruction and materials used are provided free of charge and all classes are taught be experienced volunteers. To learn how you can become a volunteer, or for more information on courses, please call the CARE Center at 860-663-1656.
CARE’s annual winter ice fishing classes have been announced and will commence throughout January across Connecticut. Each of the ice fishing events concludes with some actual, one-the-ice fishing time. Please note that registration is required and events fill up fast, so contact the CARE Center ASAP at 860-663-1656 to reserve your spot!
CARE also runs several special events throughout the year. The next two major events are the Family Ice Fishing Derby and the Winter Festival.
