As you know by the incessant television ads and statewide news headlines, incumbent Democrat Governor Phil Murphy is running for a second term against Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli, a former member of the New Jersey Assembly. What you don’t know perhaps, is how recreational fishing matters in the debate! In fairness, New Jersey anglers know what to expect from 4 years of Governor Phil Murphy; but lost in all the campaign discussion of taxes, COVID, climate change and school funding has been any talk about New Jersey’s outdoor recreational community. On October 14, 2021, the gubernatorial challenger was in Atlantic County on the campaign trail, and The Fisherman’s Jim Hutchinson, Jr. was able to catch up with him for 5 minutes at Riptide Bait and Tackle to talk fishing.
