OCT. 28 SPORTSMEN’S RALLY FOR KIM GUADAGNO

On Saturday, October 28, a Sportsmen’s Rally for Kim Guadagno will be held at 2 p.m. at Captain Bill’s Landing, 49 Inlet Drive in Point Pleasant Beach. Ms. Guadagno, the lieutenant Governor, will be there at 3 p.m. to address hunters and anglers.

According to Pete Grimbilas with the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance (NJOA) which is supporting Guadagno in her bid for Governor of New Jersey in the November 7th election, Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Stephen Reid will kick off the rally by welcoming the crowd around 2 p.m. with several speakers expected to address the crowd.

“As a mom and Jersey Shore resident who lives right on the Shrewsbury River, the outdoors has played an important part of my family’s life, so supporting the state’s sportsmen and women has always been important to me,” Guadagno said recently in an interview with Lou Martinez, a regular contributor to The Fisherman Magazine. “I used to take my three boys fishing when they were growing up, and I believe all New Jerseyans should have the right to share that kind of experience with their kids.

Noting her 8 years in the governor’s office, Guadagno told Martinez that she would continue the direction the state’s Division of Fish and Wildlife has been undertaking in regards to wildlife management and conservation while supporting “beefing up the NJDEP’s Division Fish and Game staff so that they can go head to head with the federal government and other states to advance of New Jersey’s interests.”

“I also want to engage our universities so that we have the data that we need to win quota fights,” she added, stating “We also need to work with the Trump Administration and our Congressional leaders to overhaul the Magnuson-Stevens Act so that we can make fishery decisions on sound science and better take into account the economic impact on both our commercial and recreational anglers.”

In addition to the NJOA, Guadagno also carries the support of the Recreational Fishing Alliance and the National Rifle Association.

Parking for this Saturday’s rally in Point Pleasant Beach could be tough; Grimbilas said Mayor Reid is working on free parking ideas for October 28, but added “there’s a small lot next to the inlet and a larger lot at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Arnold Avenue.”

The election of the state’s next governor takes place on Tuesday, November 7.

Guadagno served as Christie’s lieutenant governor during both terms. Prior to that, she worked as an assistant United States attorney for the District of New Jersey in Newark before accepting the role of assistant attorney general for the State of New Jersey. Her challenger, democrat Phil Murphy, is a former Goldman Sachs executive and U.S. ambassador to Germany. Prior to serving as ambassador, he was the Democratic National Committee’s finance chair.
