POPULAR CT FISHING SPOT CLOSED

One of central Connecticut’s most popular and productive winter ice fishing locations, Wethersfield Cove, is closed to ice fishing effective February 28, 2014. As noted in the official press release issue by the town of Wethersfield (below), the cove is closed as the dredging is set to take place in the main channel. This comes in conjunction with the closure of many trout-stocked waters across the state until opening day of trout season, April 19 this year. For a complete list of all closed waters, as well as the Trout Management Areas which remain open year-round, check out the CT Angler’s Guide

From the town of Wethersfield – 2/28/2014:

Cove Dredging Forces Ice Fishing Prohibition
Wethersfield Cove is closed to ice fishing beginning Friday, February 28, 2014 due to the dredging project of the Cove channel. Access to the ice and the work zone will be prohibited for safety reasons. The dredging operation will break the ice through the channel and into the Cove and the remaining ice will be unsafe due to water movement. The Cove will remain closed through the duration of the project which is scheduled to be completed by March 31. This dredging project is an U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project and will dredge the Cove channel to a depth of six feet.
