According to Skip at Saunders Boat Livery, Inc. in Southwick the bass bite in Congamond Lakes, which was “on fire” two weeks ago, cooled last week. There were still plenty of fish around, but most were small, and anglers had to work harder to catch them. Nevertheless, Thursday evening’s big-bass event produced a 3-pound, 5-ounce big-bass largemouth and 10+-pound best-three-fish total. Both categories were won by Skip’s buddy, Nick. For the second week in a row another of Skip’s friends, Ian, missed big-fish honors by 1 ounce. Water temperature is beginning to drop. That could trigger another bass blitz, but it will probably be brief. As water chills, bass will slow down. To entice them, bass anglers will have to moderate too and fish baits less energetically.
