There just has to be a stop in Rhode Island, and that’s where the Shimano ‘Surf Crew’ is this coming weekend, their fourth stop at key surf fishing sites on the East Coast to introduce Shimano’s new ‘Long Cast Surf System.’ Shimano surf expert Roy Leyva will be beach side at both events. Anglers can test to see how much more casting distance they achieve when using one of the new Aero Technium XS-C, Ultegra CI4+ XSB or Ultegra XS-C spinning reels, rigged on a new Tiralejo surf rod.
Saturday’s surf event – June 21 – is from 8:30am until 11:30am at the Charleston Breachway in Charlestown.
On Sunday, June 22, the demo activities take place at Brenton Point State Park (on Ocean Drive) in Newport. The Surf Crew will be on-site from 11am until 2.
Shimano tackles surf-fishing action with a new line-up of long-casting spinning reels – the Aero Technium 10000 XS, the Ultegra 5500 CI4+ XSB, and the Ultegra XS-C offered in both 5500 and 10000 size models — and an all-new line-up of Tiralejo ‘Long Cast Concept’ surf rods.
All with large diameter long stroke spools, along with Shimano’s new SuperSlow Oscillation feature, these new reels give anglers the long casting abilities to be within range, and the power to reel them in.
The Aero Technium 10000 XS features X-Ship gearing for smoothness and efficiency, along with Aero Wrap II, Shimano Instant Drag so the reel can quickly be switch from free spool to a ‘fight’ setting, and CF Gear (cold-forged) technology. Combined with SuperSlow 10 oscillation that lays line on the spool for exceptional castability, the Aero Technium 10000 is Shimano’s ‘ultimate’ surf casting reel for both distance and power. It retails for $699.
The lightweight, compact body design found on the Ultegra CI4+ 5500 XSB makes it easier to generate extra rod speed for long casting performance. SuperSlow 5 oscillation line lay also increases casting distance, plus the reel also features Instant Drag, CF Gear technology and X-Ship. Retail price is $319.
Both with SuperSlow 5 oscillation and X-Ship gearing contributing to smoothness and long-distance casting, the Ultegra 5500 XS-C and 10000 XS-C can tackle just about any surf fishing action. Shimano provides other key features including Instant Drag and Aero Wrap II. The 5500 size retails for $199, while the 10000 size is $219.
It’s all about long distance casting – putting anglers within range in all surf fishing locations and situations, with the new Tiralejo ‘Long Cast Concept’ surf rods. With lightweight C4S blank construction for maximum pulling power without sacrificing sensitivity, the Tiralejo rods feature Fuji K Frame tangle-free guides and a Fuji reel seat. Rods include the medium power 10’6” TRS106MA, the 11’ heavy power TRS110HA, and the medium/heavy power 12’ TRS120MHA.
