SMITH POINT ACCESS EXTENDED TO INLET

According to Nick Gibbons, Principal Environmental Analyst for Suffolk County Parks, the daytrip area at Smith Point will be extended from 2.0 miles to 2.5 miles starting on Friday, August 9. At the eastern end of that daytrip area, there will be an entrance to Burma Road for angler access to Moriches Inlet. For the moment, no access through Cut 3 to Great Gun will be allowed. At this point, restrictions are due to erosion, not birds.

Cedar Point’s outer beach driving area will also be opened as of Friday, August 9. Mr. Gibbons recommends that folks drive exclusively on the Gardiner’s Bay side (outside), not the Northwest Harbor side (inside). The inside passage remains too skinny as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
