STAFFER EARNS NATIONAL AWARD - The Fisherman

STAFFER EARNS NATIONAL AWARD

August 24, 2015 – The Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) recently announced that Tim C. Smith of Lindenhurst, NY was recognized as an award recipient at the 2015 OWAA Excellence in Craft Contests earlier this summer.

Smith, a freelance photographer and staff photographer for The Fisherman, took first place in the fishing category of the TV/Video contest for "Recreational Long Range Tuna Fishing," a Special Assignments video series produced for The Fisherman Magazine and TheFisherman.com which premiered in February 2014.

Smith is also a video producer for Fisherman Library Corp and Al Lorenzetti Video/DVD series and is webmaster at www.skimmeroutdoors.com.

Smith’s award-winning video series showcases an 18-day fishing adventure of a lifetime aboard the long-range California fishing vessel, Excel, and includes exciting daily footage of the action between San Diego, CA and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. Also featured in the series is veteran long-range angler John Nappo of Trophy Tackle in the hunt for yellowtail, wahoo and monster yellowfin tuna.

The complete series can be found in our Special Assignments area.

The annual awards program recognizes and honors the best work of outdoor communicators who are members of OWAA. This year, 62 individuals took home a total of nearly $12,000 in cash prizes. The fishing category includes freshwater and saltwater, any tackle. Emphasis should be on human interest or adventure within the sports.

OWAA is the oldest and largest association of professional outdoor communicators in the United States. It was organized in 1927 by members of the Izaak Walton League of America and includes professional communicators dedicated to sharing the outdoor experience. OWAA’s professionals include writers, photographers, outdoors radio and television show hosts, book authors, videographers, lecturers and artists.

The association is headquartered in Missoula, Montana. Visit www.owaa.org for more info or check out all the winners.
