STATE 4X4 PERMITS AVAILABLE SEPT. 8

There are many surfcasters who focus their surf fishing efforts on the fall months, and September, with the passage of Labor Day marks the unofficial beginning of surf season. Now, before the first nor’easters stir the movement of bait and fish, is the time to get tackle, and more importantly, access permits in order so that you can partake in the fall run with no access concerns.

If you missed the April 30 deadline for purchasing your state Beach Vehicle or Sportfishing permits, they are available again beginning the Tuesday after Labor Day – September 8. The cost of the Beach Vehicle Permit is $65 and is valid until December 31. The Night Sportfishing Permit is $30 and is also valid until the end of the calendar year.

The 4×4 permit is valid at Robert Moses (Democrat Point), SoreThumb/Cedar Beach, Gilgo, Montauk Point, Hither Hills and Napeague State Parks. The Night Sportfishing permit is valid at Robert Moses, Jones Beach, Captree, Sunken Meadow, Wildwood, Montauk Point and Hither Hills State Parks, and the Green Island Fishing Access Site. For more info on State Park permits and fishing access, call the permit office at 631-669-1000.

Suffolk County’s Outer Beach Permit, valid at Smith Point, Cupsogue, Shinnecock West and East, and Shagwong, is sold all year and is $93 for the season for Suffolk County residents and $46 for seniors. After Labor Day, non-seniors can purchase it at a reduced price of $46. A Green Key Card is required to purchase the permit.
