THE FISHERMAN HOSTS SEMINARS THIS WEEKEND AT EDISON BOAT SHOW

Once again The Fisherman is coordinating the “how to” fishing seminars at various winter events, including the Atlantic City Boat Show later this month, as well as this weekend’s New Jersey Boat Sale & Expo in Edison.

From Thursday through Sunday, February 12-15, the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey will present their annual New Jersey Boat Sale & Expo at New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center at Raritan Center, 97 Sunfield Avenue in Edison.  Show hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.  Admission is $15 for adults, kids 12 and under are admitted free.  .

Fishing seminars at New Jersey Boat Sale & Expo are scheduled every day, 14 total through Sunday, covering everything from bluefin tuna to tautog; there are even “catch and cook” demos in the seminar room on Thursday and Friday.

Capt. Jim Freda (Shore Catch) kicks it off on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with Jersey Shore Bluefin, followed by The Fisherman’s Jim Hutchinson, Jr. talking Striped Bass – Catch & Conservation at 3 p.m., and then Jenn Guedes (Jenn Can Cook) presenting a very special presentation on cooking your catch with fish prep inside the seminar room.

Friday seminars begin with Capt. Bob Henn (Ebbtide Fishing Charters) at 1:30 p.m. with tips on Fishing For Doormat Fluke, then Chef Jenn Guedes returns to the seminar area with the second of two Cooking Your Catch talks in Edison.  Rich Bizzari (Team Daiwa) wraps up our Friday talks with Tautog Tips & Tactics at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, February 14th boasts a packed lineup of top New Jersey anglers and captains, with Capt. Erwin Heinrich (Scales & Tails Charters) at 11 a.m. discussing Striped Bass on Artificials, Capt. Alan Lee (Mushin Sportfishing) comes on at noon focused on Troll, Jig, Chunk, & Pop Goes the Tuna, Capt. Bob Bogan (The Gambler) provides his Pro Tips on Fluke Fishing at 1:30 p.m., at 3 p.m. it’s Capt. Franie D’Aleo & Spencer Torine (Jersey Devil Sportfishing) with advice on Catching a Personal Best Striper, with Joe & Gerry Zagorski (NJFishing.com) wrapping up the day at 4 p.m. with Blackfish Strategy & Tactics.

On Sunday, February 15, Capt. Harry Browne (Muscles Magoo/Lady K Charters) kicks off the final day of seminars at 11 a.m. with Raritan Bay Monster Stripers, and then fresh off her weeklong trip to the China Fishing Show in Beijing, Jenni Ackerman (Jigging World) talks Doormat Fluke at noon.  Our grand finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday is a special family day with 14-year-old sharpie Pedro Ildefonso (KEPTI Fishing / Team Tsunami) sharing his tips to help put anglers of all ages into successful togging.

Also on Saturday, February 14, the Jersey Shore Surfcasters will present their Surf Day event at Brookdale Community College at 765 Newman Springs Road in Lincroft, NJ.  The annual event for surfcasters show runs from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with all the gear you need for the season ahead.

Your $10 admission ($5 for veterans, kids 14 & under free) also includes admission to the seminar program featuring Bill Wetzel (9:30 a.m.), Shell E. Caris (10:45 a.m.), Pedro Ildefonso (noon), Brandon Bernich (noon), Nick Honachefsky (12:30 p.m.), and John Skinner (1:45 p.m.), with a special panel discussion called Turning the Tides at 3 p.m.  For details go to facebook.com/surfday.

Hold on to your admission stub from the New Jersey Boat Sale & Expo or Surf Day, as it will entitle you to free admission to Saturday’s Hi-Mar Fisherman’s Flea Market after 12 o’clock.  This annual fishing flea market runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Port Monmouth VFW Post 2179, 1 Veterans Lane in Port Monmouth. Admission is $5; kids 15 and under free, but it’s free admission from noon to 2 p.m. for those who show a receipt from one of the aforementioned events in Edison or Lincroft.  Visit hi-mar.com for more information.
