The captain had us up at 3am to catch the large baits needed for our last shot of cows before heading back to Cabo San Lucas. There was a bait catching assembly line on deck and it didn’t take long for thirty anglers to catch the required amount of cow candy.
These are jumbo baits and quite difficult to fish because of their size and tenacity. Each bait wants to swim where they please so the skilled deckhands are paramount to controlling this chaos. Unfortunately, however, none of the cows we were hoping for showed up this morning.
These northeast fishermen have clearly been spoiled. The tuna we were catching today are considered small here, but back home they would garner bragging rights.
We finished the day with another wild wahoo bite on the troll and once the Excel was out of gear it was every man for himself.
Although the fishing has ended there will still be daily reports until we make port in San Diego.
