WHEN SAND EELS RULE THE SURF

Bluefish, summer flounder, false albacore, striped bass, even bluefin tuna – if it swims and eats, it probably feasts on sand eels at some point during the season.

The abundance of sand eels along the Northeast coast has led to increased opportunities along the inshore and midrange grounds, and when those sand eels start pushing inshore during the late fall and early winter, the well-prepared surfcaster is usually on the very best bite around the holidays.
