2022 Boat & Motor Buyer's Guide - The Fisherman

2022 Boat & Motor Buyer’s Guide

It’s been an interesting year since last season’s Boat Buyers’ Guide. After a year of being cooped up with draconian COVID restrictions, the entire free world decided that buying a boat was their best investment coming out of the pandemic.

According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) new powerboat sales increased by 24% from May 2020 to May 2021. That’s both the good news and the bad news in one statement. Boat company sales are through the roof, with new orders requiring anywhere from 6 to 18 months to wait for your new ride. As Viking’s President Pat Healy recently stated, “It’s a great time to be in the boat business.” No kidding, but that’s the bad news too.

Since demand far outstrips supply right now, Keynesian Economics is in full bloom and prices are totally crazy; as such, there are few bargains to be had. Another dark cloud that we’ve been hearing ad nauseam is the “supply chain” issue that seems to impact just about everything in our lives, from food, to cars, to electronics and yes, to boats and outboards too. In spite of that, there are a fleet of new boats for 2022, so jump onboard the Buyers’ Guide and let’s go for a boat ride to see what’s new.

GRADY-WHITE

Although there are no “new” boats for 2022, one of Grady-White’s most proven models, the Fisherman 257 CC did get a makeover. This SeaV2 running bottom is one of the best offshore performers in its class. I spent two seasons running an earlier model Fisherman 257 and it did the job in the bays and inlets, near offshore waters and all the way out to the 100-fathom line. The new 2022 model year version of the Fisherman 257 brings with it additional upgrades, demonstrating one of Grady-White’s core values that has contributed to its leadership and success over the decades, specifically listening to customers and making continuous improvements to keep them happy.

grady-white

The Fisherman 257’s T-top has been re-engineered. The painted aluminum frame, integrated into the scratch resistant windshield, now incorporates LED spreader lights and three tri-colored LED recessed lights (red, blue, white). The storage net (which is perfect to stow PFDs) remains, along with a four rod rocket launcher and a radar flat. Overhead handholds and handrails surrounding the scratch-resistant windshield make it easy to move around the boat. Add that to a wide-open 64-square foot cockpit and a large, roomy console and you’ve got a real winner.

The head features storage shelves, a hanging locker, dome lighting, with plenty of room to lock up rods and gear. From the integrated swim platform with ladder to the enhanced stereo sound system with Bluetooth, two forward console and two helm speakers, this boat is ready to rock whether you’re fishing or playing at the beach. Other nice touches are the foldaway aft bench seat, a standard 32-gallon insulated raw water livewell port side aft, plus a handy 185-quart insulated fish box in the center of the transom. Add two more insulated fishboxes under the forward bench seats and you have enough capacity to ice your best day’s catch. For more info, visit www.gradywhite.com.

CONTENDER

The latest model release from Contender Boats, the Contender 44 Canyon Berth (44CB), packs speed, reliability and performance into a 44-foot saltwater fishing machine. With a maximum power rating of 2000 horsepower, the 44CB was inspired by the canyon diehards of the northeast, who regularly battle the elements for 100 miles each way to pursue big fish at the edge. Built with a console berth and small bunk, the 44CB offers enough headroom to comfortably take cover from the elements or rest up during overnight trips.

contender

Equipped with a 43-foot, 10-inch overall length with a 12-foot beam, this Florida girl’s knife-like entry and twin-stepped, deep-vee 22.7-degree aft deadrise will blast through opposing sea conditions and will get you to your favorite offshore spot way ahead of the fleet. She’s rated to carry up to 2,000 horsepower on the transom, which translates to a quartet of Yamaha’s fire-breathing 425 XTO V8 four-stroke outboards. Factory tests with triple 425 XTOs indicated she’ll hit a top speed of almost 67 mph and will travel to the edge in the fast lane at 4000 rpm, hitting 40 mph at 47 gph (gallons per hour), for a net of 0.85 mpg. Her standard 600-gallon fuel tank should give you about 12 hours of cruising range at this speed, with a modest reserve.

Notable standard features include a 70-gallon freshwater capacity; a freshwater sink down below; twin insulated 110-gallon aft fishboxes, port and starboard; a pair of 55-gallon transom livewells; a slide-away toilet in the console; an insulated 340-gallon forward fishbox; 10-foot long lined forward rod lockers, port and starboard; 100-gallon under berth storage; choice of hull and deck colors; Livorsi recessed trim tabs; waterproof switches and breaker panel with indicator lights; high-speed compass; oversized electronics panel and much more. Contender is known as a semi-customer builder and you can definitely have this one your way with dozens of unique and functional options. For more information, visit www.contenderboats.com.

STEIGERCRAFT

The big news for this Long Island based boat builder for 2022 is the launch of their 31 Fisherman. This weather-protected three-sided pilothouse design offers a huge fishing cockpit, enhanced by its 10-foot beam, with a deep-vee running bottom that tapers back to 21 degrees of deadrise at the transom. This combination, along with her displacement of 10,000 pounds, helps to tame choppy seas when heading to or from distant fishing grounds. I like the open back design of the 31 Fisherman’s pilothouse, which combined with the single level deck, keeps captain and crew as close to the cockpit action as possible. When the weather turns nasty, an optional full-width drop curtain will keep the crew dry and out of the elements.

The 31 Fisherman has been designed to maximize fishing space and storage with two large in-deck fishboxes and a large livewell in the transom. Other standard fishing features include raw water washdown, eight gunwale-mount rod holders, a seven-rod rocket launcher on the hardtop and recessed trim tabs. Inside the pilothouse, you will find the helm to starboard with captain’s chairs on both the port and starboard side of the boat, with bench style seating aft of each chair. There’s generous tackle and gear storage inside the pilothouse and the cabin has been simplified on the Fisherman model by enlarging the berth and deleting the enclosed head found on the traditional Steiger 31 DV Miami, but still retaining a porta-pottie.

The 31 Fisherman is equipped with a lone star drum winch on the bow for easy anchoring with over 450 feet of rode. This hull is rated to carry twin 300s on the outboard bracket, and when combined with her 300-gallon fuel capacity, she has the speed and range to get to the 100-fathom line and back, with plenty to spare, offering in excess of a 420-mile range with a safe reserve. For more information, visit www.steigercraft.com.

SKEETER

This bass boat builder from Kilgore, TX is a household name on all of the lakes and rivers in the Lower 48. But one of the best kept secrets in Northeast coastal communities is that they make a very capable lineup of saltwater bay boats too. The newest addition to their Bay Boat series – which now includes seven models from 21 to 25 feet – is the SX2350 center console. Storage abounds on the Skeeter SX2350, with a door on the port side of the console opening to reveal access to your system wiring, battery access and plenty of dry storage for tackle boxes and safety gear. The raised forward casting deck offers a wide, flat elevated perch to sight cast to your favorite gamefish.

skeeter

A quartet of flush hatches below reveal a rod locker to port and insulated fishbox to starboard, a dry storage locker on the centerline and a vertical anchor locker forward. There’s yet another storage area under the cockpit sole forward of the front console seat, which includes a 14-gallon livewell down under. The leaning post offers additional stowage under its flip up cushion seat for handy access to your fishing accessories. The aft casting deck offers twin 20-gallon livewells under each corner hatch, in addition to a flip-up twin bench seat for added crew comfort when underway. The bench section flips up to enable access to all pumps, plumbing and wiring in the bilge area.

Power options from Yamaha include the F200, F200 V6 SHO, F250 and F250 SHO. Whatever your choice, the 59-gallon fuel tank should give you sunup to sundown performance. Notable standard features include a 12-inch manual jackplate, a pair of flush-mount rod holders in the covering boards and a six-pack rocket launcher aft of the leaning post backrest, Seastar tilt hydraulic steering, and a retractable boarding ladder.  For details visit www.skeeterboats.com.

NORTHCOAST

NorthCoast’s 315HT is the largest member in their growing cabin fleet, joining the 285HT, 255HT, 235HT and 215HT models. The NorthCoast engineers took the basic shape of the 285HT Cabin, which features a 23-degree aft deadrise and three-strake per side deep-vee running bottom that sports a 10-foot, 2-inch beam, lengthening it out to an LOA of 35 feet including the standard bow pulpit and Armstrong outboard bracket aft. The new 315HT’s fuel capacity was also increased to 316 gallons, offering true canyon range. The net result is a bluewater sportfisher with overnighting capabilities, with plenty of room in the extended cockpit to wrestle a four-banger of bigeye, a spacious area under the hardtop to protect the crew when underway in the rough stuff, plus room down below for a head and sleeping for four.

Northcoast

By lengthening the cockpit on the 315HT, this created enough space for a pair of 58-gallon in-deck fishboxes, each of which is individually macerated. The full transom design includes a pair of blue-walled recirculating livewells, with one a 26-gallon oval design and the other a smaller 19-gallon well for specialty baits. When it’s time to either jump onboard at the marina or to wrestle the big ones aboard offshore, the portside cockpit door combines with the starboard corner walk-through transom door to give the crew some great options. The cockpit gutter system with oversized scuppers will evacuate green water quickly wither underway or at rest.

Rigged with a pair of Yamaha F300s, she’ll hit a top speed in the high-50s, with optimum cruise at 31-mph/3500 rpm. Popular options are your choice of hull color; Dometic 16k BTU A/C; a domestic hot water unit; 1.5kW bow thruster; a 3.5 kW gasoline generator and more. Like all NorthCoast boats, the 315HT is backed by a 12-year structural hull warranty. For more information, visit www.northcoastboats.com.

SAILFISH

The all-new Sailfish 272CC is designed for serious fishermen looking for a smooth-riding, mid-sized offshore boat loaded with big-boat features. The 272CC is a serious sportfisher, equipped with a total of 25 rod holders, 35-gallon livewell in the leaning post and a secondary 30-gallon transom livewell. A notable standard feature is a portside dive door, which is not only useful for hauling in oversized pelagics, but also makes it easy for passengers to board at dockside. Twin insulated fish boxes set into the cockpit sole are augmented by an additional pair under the raised bow seats, offering plenty of deep chill capacity to keep your most optimistic catch well preserved for the ride home.

Sailfish

The standard windlass will making anchoring “fingertip easy” at the touch of a button. A stern freshwater shower and raw water washdown make for easy cleanups to get the salt and gurry off of the decks and gear. Her 177-gallon fuel capacity gives the 277CC canyon range and she’ll offer excellent speed and fuel efficiency with a pair of Yamaha or Merc 200s.

Like its big sister, the flagship 360CC, the 272CC features Sailfish’s sixth-generation Variable Degree Stepped (VDS) hull which offers a sharp entry angle forward that tapers to a 24-degree deadrise at the stern along the keel section to help it slice easily through the chop. Moving outward, the hull transitions to a 23-degree section for additional lift and then flattens to 22 degrees for enhanced side-to-side stability. To help keep the ride dry, the 272CC features spray rails on each side of the hull and up front, a pronounced bow flare directs waters outward. All Sailfish hulls and decks are reinforced with Kevlar and carbon fiber to add strength without increasing weight. No wood is used in their construction and all hardware is stainless steel. PURSUIT

Pursuit was purchased by Malibu back in 2018, and with recent acquisition Maverick Boating Group now in the family, it’s now one of the largest fishing boat manufacturers in the USA. There are two new Pursuit boats for the 2022 model year. One of these is the S358 center console, whose video review has already been spotlighted at The Fisherman.com. The other newbie is the “more petite” DC 246 dual console, a real waterborne SUV whose multi-mission design will make for countless weekends of family fun on the water.

The sleek lines and the signature fiberglass-framed windshield of the new DC 246 – the latest dual console in the Pursuit lineup – are the perfect introduction to Pursuit’s DC series, which also includes the DC 266, DC 295, DC 326 and flagship DC 365 models. The accommodations and unique social zones are well thought-out and will seem like they were made just for you and your family. These hallmarks of the Pursuit dual console series are purposefully engineered, allowing you and your crew to move seamlessly fore and aft through the center walkway. And every seat in the house gives you a perfect view of the joy and wonders of the dynamic “marine-scape” that’s in constant motion all round you.

With a significantly increased cockpit size and functionality over its predecessor, the DC 246 offers plenty of elbow room and angling space to bend the rods for the ultimate catch/clean/cook experience. When relaxing at your favorite beach or sandbar, getting in and out of the water and cleaning your gear is easy with the optional bow boarding ladder with fresh water washdown. The standard Yamaha F300 will provide energetic performance with a top speed of 45 mph at wide open throttle and an optimum cruise at 4500 rpm, where she’ll turn 33.6 mph while getting 2.14 mpg. ALBEMARLE

The latest addition to the Albemarle fleet is their 30-foot Express. “Over the past few years, we have introduced new outboard models with our 27 and 31 Dual Consoles,” said Albemarle General Manager, Burch Perry, adding “While these boats are huge successes in that they meet the demands of boating families, the 30 Express will be more of a return to our fishing roots.”

Albemarle

The 30 Express will offer the ultimate in hardcore fishing amenities in a compact express package. Serious anglers will appreciate its offshore ability, exceptional handling in rough seas, and fuel economy. Featuring a modern helm area with forward facing seating for three, mezzanine style seating aft, large in-deck macerated fishboxes, transom livewell, tackle center and a standard transom door, this express delivers bluewater capability in a big way. With a full galley, a stand-up head, in addition to an A-bunk down below, the 30 will also overnight quite comfortably.

“This new model will have a custom Carolina look and unsurpassed visibility from the helm with a standard rigid acrylic enclosure,” stated Keith Privott, Albemarle Director of Sales and Product Development. “She will have a standard anchor windlass system with a through-stem roller and polished stainless steel anchor. Every boat will be Seakeeper 2 ready, with the requisite stringer beds in place. A triple 300-horsepower Yamaha option will provide the low-end torque needed to maintain slower cruise speeds on those sloppy days and make her the fastest Albemarle ever built. The hull is designed to bust through head seas, land softly in the troughs and keep the enclosure dry.” With a dry weight of 13,000 pounds, 24-degree aft deadrise and a 320-gallon fuel capacity, she has both the range and toughness to get you to the edge and back. For more info, visit www.albemarleboats.com.

BLACKFIN

There are two new boats for Blackfin’s growing family of dual consoles, the 232DC and the 302DC, essentially doubling the size of their existing fleet. Joining the existing 252DC and 272DC, these new models create both entry level and flagship offerings for those who feel that the family friendly dual console layout best fits their waterborne lifestyle.  From offshore fishing excursions to cruising the back bays, sandbars and coastal areas, the 232DC has everything you need to enjoy your time on the water to the fullest. The crossover design provides the versatility you need to satisfy all of your on the water needs.

Blackfin

Standard features include U-shaped bow seating, custom helm seats, an insulated 18-gallon baitwell, four stainless steel gunwale-mounted rod holders, a trio of transom-mounted stainless steel rod holders, Fusion Satellite Stereo, telescoping and recessed swim ladder, plus an impressive command center. Blackfin’s 232DC is the perfect vessel for family boaters and/or anglers alike. With a length overall of 21 feet, 6 inches and a generous 8-foot, 6-inch beam, the new 232 Dual Console offers the best of both worlds. Power options will range from 225- to 300-horsepower our-stroke outboards, which should provide a weekend’s worth of fishing and cruising with its standard 92-gallon fuel tank. This Blackfin’s sharp deep-vee forefoot and 20-degree aft deadrise running bottom and rock-solid construction should have little difficulty taming a tight afternoon chop when the wind comes up, making for a comfortable and dry ride back to home port.

The big sister 302 DC of Blackfin’s dual console fleet is still under construction, but will be based on a 30-foot, 2-inch length overall and a 10-foot beam. With a sharp 23-degree aft deadrise deep-vee running bottom, her projected dry weight is 9,000 pounds and she’ll be rated to carry 800 horsepower on the transom, with a 240-gallon fuel capacity. BOSTON WHALER

Just in time for the 50th anniversary of the original Outrage, Boston Whaler has debuted a thrilling new version of its flagship model, the new 420 Outrage Anniversary Edition. The Anniversary Edition retains everything boaters loved about the original 420 Outrage (ease of use, expansive seating and gathering spaces, a well-appointed cabin, purposeful amenities, great fishability and flawless performance), but builds on these with the latest technology, updated styling and an array of exciting new options.

Boston

Cutting-edge propulsion is a major hallmark of the Anniversary Edition. The boat features triple 600-horsepower V12 Mercury FourStroke Verados with Joystick Piloting, delivering exciting performance, effortless handling and respectable fuel efficiency. With a fuel capacity of 700 gallons, the 420 Outrage empowers boaters to travel significantly longer distances without having to stop and refuel. A Skyhook/autopilot keypad and functionality allow for effortless station keeping, while a Seakeeper Gyro Stabilization system virtually eliminates boat roll. The 420 is not only a powerful performer, it’s also a head-turner. A black hardtop frame package gives the boat a sleek, sophisticated appearance that pairs beautifully with the upholstery’s new contrast stitching and Sea Gray color scheme. Inside the cabin, darker colors and updated finishes including metallic accents make the space feel larger and more inviting.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Outrage is also a hardcore offshore fishing platform. The deluxe leaning post/bait prep center in the cockpit includes an insulated 40-gallon livewell, freshwater sink, tackle storage drawers and a solid-surface countertop, along with a refrigerator and electric grill. An additional 24-gallon livewell can be found in the aft port corner. The Anniversary Edition also features a new FROSTBOX refrigeration system that keeps catches fresh (or beverages cool) on even the hottest summer days. For more information, visit www.bostonwhaler.com.

CAROLINA SKIFF

One of the latest boats to be introduced by Carolina Skiff is the SWS Series of skinny water coastal sportfishing craft. Built to be able to fish those areas that are out of bounds for typical deep-vee running bottoms, the modest deadrise on the SWS series of boats were specially designed to access shallower back bay waters, open flats, sand bars and inlets.

The 19 SWS safely accommodates up to eight people and the 21 SWS can pack up to 12 onboard for fishing and boating adventures. Both SWS Series boats offer 100% fiberglass and composite construction, which means no wood to rot and less overall needed maintenance. The molded fiberglass deck liner, high-density fiber core foam transom and fiberglass grid system ensure a rock solid ride. Both SWS Series boats are eye-pleasing and comfortable, featuring diamond-pleated upholstery, stainless steel hardware, molded-in storage compartments, a 25-gallon stern bait well and more. The gravity-fed drain and non-skid deck and cockpit ensure that you stay dry and safely on your feet during every adventure. The swim platform with three-step telescopic ladder is both practical and useful and makes getting back aboard a breeze.

Notable options include power grip stainless steering wheel, a 12/24 trolling motor panel with trim/tilt, maxi air livewell recirculation system, transom stainless rails, bow stainless rails, 6-foot stainless side rails, raw water washdown, SeaStar hydraulic steering with tilt helm and AM/FM BT radio with four speakers and USB and AUX plugs. Numerous full boat or two-tone colored side options are available to personalize your ride. A Bimini top is available, or you can choose from either canvas or fiberglass hard shell T-Tops. For more info, visit www.carolinaskiff.com.

CENTURY BOATS

Century Boats – whose largest sportfisher to date was in the form of their current 3200CC – has embraced one of the most notorious expressions of our times, “go big or go home!” For the 2022 model year, Century has decided to “go big” in the form of their new, semi-custom 5100CC.  The Century 5100CC features a hybrid hull design that is an engineered balance between a traditional “vee” hull and stepped hull design. The 5100CC blends the best of both worlds. With unique strake geometry, a dynamic keel pad and multifaceted transom, this hybrid hull practically eliminates bow rise while reducing drag and increasing lift.

century

An exclusive hybrid matrix of carbon fiber and Kevlar developed for the hull of the 5100CC provides extra stiffness while reducing overall weight. All composites are vacuum-infused to achieve optimum glass/resin ratio. Twin transom doors open to an oversized swim platform providing complete 360-degree fishability. Engine rigging is hidden below the platform for safe, unobstructed maneuverability. A semi-enclosed console/pilothouse area provides a comfortable, climate controlled cabin space for you and your guests onboard, while convenient zip-up canvas panels convert this space into a fully-enclosed pilot house.

Three separate berths below deck comfortably sleep six adults. An additional lounger above deck converts to sleep two more adults inside the air conditioned pilot house. Insulated fishboxes with dedicated electric freezers keep your catch frozen with the touch of a button. With engine options that range from quad/quint Yamaha 425 XTOs, Mercury 450R Verados, or Mercury 600 Verados, this will be one of the fastest fishing boats we have seen to date with 1,000 gallons of fuel to get you there and back. For more info, visit www.centuryboats.com.

The console’s advanced ergonomics and contemporary styling maximize good looks and comfort while adding even more walk-around room and storage space. New optional features include a deluxe electronics suite with a black acrylic infinity dash and a full, three–sided windshield with electric wiper and vent.

One of the most desirable options that should be at the top of your list is the macerator pump-outs for the fishboxes. To seal the deal, this Cobia employs a bonded electrical systems and their unique VARIS construction process (vacuum assisted resin infusion system); it’s the latest and greatest way to make a boat in one shot that maximizes fiberglass structural strength, minimizes unnecessary resin weight and is better for the environment with less volatile organic compound, or VOC emissions. For details, visit www.cobiaboats.com.

EDGEWATER

The latest EdgeWater is their 340CC, based on a classic variable-vee deadrise running bottom. It’s loaded with standard and optional features for both anglers and the family. EVERGLADES

I had the opportunity to test Everglades’ new flagship 455cc during the summer last year and it was quite an experience. Whether your passion is fishing, family cruising, a day of rafting up, or perhaps all of the above, the Everglades 455cc does not disappoint. One of the most impressive standard features that jumped out upon my initial inspection was the Garmin digital switching system with touchscreen system control, which is supported by at least three layers of redundant backup systems; this is space-age stuff right out of Star Wars.

The helm features a trio of “sliding drawer” type helm steps that can make a boat owner who is short on height feel Michael Jordan-esque when behind the wheel. With standard seating for about 20, your biggest challenge is not taking them all out at the same time, but being sure you have enough life jackets onboard! The weather protected helm area features three rows of triple seat sections, plus added bow and stern seating as well. The 455cc’s 40-plus rod holders are more than enough do the job, even on an extended canyon overnighter.

This Florida girl can really turn on the jets, with 1,700 sea ponies packed on the transom, courtesy of a quartet of Yamaha’s massive 425 HP XTO four-stroke, V8 outboards. Top speed with four onboard and 3/4-fuel during a windy day was an impressive 58 mph. The fuel-efficient cruising band on this 45-footer is fairly generous, turning 25 to 42 mph at roughly 0.69 to 0.58 mpg, in a range from 3,000 to 4,500 rpm. Tilting one of the big 425 XTOs out of the water, we were able to speeds in the upper 40s and she ran like she was meant to go on three from the get-go. Like all Everglades, this one is unsinkable and is backed by a lifetime hull warranty. For more information, visit www.evergladesboats.com.

FINSEEKER

Finseeker is built by the well-known boat builder Crownline Boats. The 230 Center Console is really designed to be well-rounded, well-equipped fishing performer with a hull design that provides a smooth, dry, high-performance ride. It’s certainly not a bare bones model; in fact to the contrary with a 9-inch twin touchscreen Garmin display at the helm, a fiberglass hard top, windlass with rope and chain the 230 comes well-appointed with standard features that are often options on many other boats. Also standard is its 100% composite stringers, transom, bulkheads, and closeouts.

Finseeker

Other notable standards include a bait station w/aerated bait well, tool & tackle trays and LED Lights, aerated bait well with clear acrylic access window, battery charger and management panel, in floor macerated fish boxes, 65-quart Yeti cooler. The list of standard features is long and quite impressive making the Finseeker a very high value model. Its max power is 300 horsepower to propel its 4,980-pound, 20-degree hull efficiently through the water. The 23-foot center console is the perfect size for fishing and boating inshore, and offshore in the Northeast and should be on anyone list looking for an everyday solid performing enter console. INVINCIBLE

This Florida boat builder continues to make waves with its catamaran fleet, and for 2022 they’ve introduced the biggest and baddest feline yet, the 46 Pilothouse Catamaran. With the introduction of the 46 Catamaran back in 2020, Invincible raised the Cat segment to a whole new level. Now they’ve upped the stakes yet again by unveiling the first-ever production pilothouse catamaran. Offering the same range, performance and 360-degree fishability of the 46 CC Cat, this is a different breed of feline, equipped with the sleeping space and comfort of a comparably-sized inboard sportfisher. This unique design will take overnighter canyon trips to the next level of crew comfort and fishability in a wider range of weather and sea conditions compared to open center console craft.

Invincible

With an overall length of 45 feet, 11 inches and a beam of 12 feet, her Morelli & Melvin patented hybrid, semi-asymmetric, multi-hull design performs like few others out in the rough stuff. With a weight of 20,000 pounds, 1,000-gallon fuel capacity and rated to carry up to 900 horsepower on each of her twin sponsons, this Florida girl can get out and get back in sea conditions where many others fear to tread.

JUPITER MARINE

The unique design of the new Jupiter 43 combines the best elements of a premium sportfishing yacht with all the advantages of a nimble, go-fast/go-far center console, blending them into a sportfisher worthy of the Jupiter name. In the “over 40-foot” class of center console platforms, this boat raises the bar for performance and comfort without compromising one inch of fishability. Like her sister ship’s in the Jupiter fleet, the 43 offers unmatched performance driven by their exclusive Posi-Stern hull pad design. This innovative feature creates a variable dynamic stern lift that increases efficiency by providing a perfect running attitude. The result is higher speeds, superior handling, increased fuel economy and a smoother ride with no loss of visibility from the helm. Jupiter boats are the product of over 35 years of experience and meticulous craftsmanship from a team committed to building only the best.

Jupiter

Notable standard features on the Jupiter 43 include vacuum-infused vinyl ester construction; hi-tech composite PVC foam coring; an inner liner that’s integrally bonded to the hull; a ceramic poured transom; foam filled fiberglass uni-grid stringer system; hybrid forward seating; 360-degree coaming pads; recessed trim tabs with indicator switch; a trio of auto bilge pumps; pull-up bow cleats and springline and cockpit cleats with hawse pipe deck fittings; an integrated transom seat with an illuminated 90-gallon insulated livewell and more.

With an overall hull length of 43 feet, 1 inch supported by a 12-foot, 6-inch beam, she’ll rock right through a tight chop with her sharp forward entry that tapers back to a deep-vee 24 degrees of deadrise aft. Rigged with a trio of Yamaha’s 425 XTO V8s, she’ll travel in the fast lane to and from the fishing grounds and her 602-gallon tank will take you to some faraway fishing spots. KEY WEST BOATS

For 2022, Key West has trimmed the product line to focus on its core values of producing affordable, mid-sized family fishing and recreational coastal craft. Accordingly, the prior year’s Billistic lineup of bluewater sportfishers has been removed from the product mix.

keywest

The largest boat in the Key West fleet is the 263FS, which is a family-friendly center console that is equally adept at bending rods or taking a crew out for the day of beaching it and the associated watersports activities. With emphasis on comfort, fishing and safety, the 263 FS (Family Sportsman) features added seating and storage, with a changing area and porta-pottie under the larger console. It doesn’t shortchange you on the fishing side of the equation, with a total of 22 rod holders, dual livewells and horizontal storage racks under the gunnels to hold up to 8-foot long saltwater rods. A macerated fish box is set under the cockpit sole in the bow to ice down the day’s catch.

Some of the notable standards on the Key West 263 FS include a thru-hull windlass, hardtop, side entry door with hidden ladder, twin bilge pumps, high-pressure washdown, spacious forward seating with built-in backrests, cockpit bolsters, eight-speaker stereo system and Sea Star hydraulic tilt steering with power assist, plus 12-inch trim tabs with indicators. The 175-gallon fuel tank will take this Carolina girl a long way in between fill-ups, especially if you opt for twin 150s or 175s on the transom. Rumor has it that the Key West design team is working on a larger 28- to 29-foot version of the Family Sportsman series, so stay tuned for more if looking for something a bit larger. MAKO

For the 2022 model year, Mako has limited their offerings to a trio of offshore and a trio of inshore outboard-powered models. The bluewater boats include the 214 CC, the 334 CC and the flagship of the fleet, the 414 CC. The entire Mako offshore lineup is been carefully designed to help you take on the rugged conditions you’ll encounter while fishing or cruising. Every model features all-composite construction, deep-vee hulls and a deep cockpit loaded with fishing and comfort features to help you get to your destination, reel in your trophy and make it back safe and sound. For back-bay and shallow water anglers, the inshore fleet consists of the Pro Skiff 15 CC, the Pro Skiff 17 CC and the 18 LTS.

The Mako 214 CC is the ideal balance of fishing performance and family convenience. Bow, forward console and aft seating adds comfort for family and friends and the optional deck filler expands the forward lounge area. The versatile 214 CC is overbuilt for safety and comfort. It rides on Mako’s proven deep-vee hull, which dominates a chop with its aggressive deadrise and throws down spray with its reverse chines, resulting in a smooth, dry and stable ride.

Notable standard features include aft seating with a folding center backrest, a canvas T-top with four rod holders and an electronics box. The console features a head enclosure that also provides access to wiring. The anodized aluminum leaning post offers vertical rodholders, plus a comfy helm seat with flip-up cushion, with storage below seat and space below the leaning post for and optional cooler. The head enclosure/storage space offers a convenient wiring access hatch, battery access, a main distribution electrical panel and a courtesy light. For additional details, visit www.makoboats.com.

The 2500 length is 24 feet, 10 inches with an 8-foot, 10-inch beam. The hull draft is approximately 21 inches and the dead rise is 23 degrees. It’s a well-made boat utilizing full composite construction and hand laid fiberglass lamination. The integrated fiberglass structural stringer is system injected with urethane floatation foam. The hull construction is Kevlar reinforced and the composite transom core adds great strength where need most and capable of 500 maximum horsepower to push the 5,474-pound platform efficiently through the water.

LIMESTONE

With roots firmly planted in the Northeast fishing boat market, Limestone has been a heritage brand in the coastal Northeast region. Limestone boats was designed by renowned yacht designer Mark Ellis of Essex, CT, which explains why they’re known for running so well along our Northeast waterways.

Limestone

The 20-foot 200CC Center Console is a great example of what a Northeast inshore fishing boat should be.  With a 21.1-degree dead rise the hull has just enough of deep vee to cut through the chop and to afford a stable platform while adrift. At 2,600 pounds, its more narrow 8-foot beam makes it an excellent boat for trailering. Available with a 200-horsepower outboard standard, or optional 250-horsepower, it has the power and reliability you expect. Ample storage for rods and gear are throughout, as well as comfortable seating.

For protection from the elements, Limestone offers an optional bimini top or a powder coated hardtop T-top w/ rod holders (four), LED spreader light and LED recessed lights. And you can even color match the underside of your hardtop T-top to your hull color choice as an added optional feature. Learn more about Limestone at www.limestoneboats.com.

SEA BORN

Sea Born boats, along with sister companies Sundance (utility skiffs) and Spyder (flats boats), are a division of Composite Research Inc., located down in Blackshear, GA. Introduced back in the 2021 model year, the all-new LX26 Center Console is the largest of four vessels in the company’s LX series. According to Sea Born engineers, every boat in the LX lineup successfully merges family-centric features with let’s-go-fishing readiness. This boat offers a lot of useful room onboard with an overall length of 26 feet, 6 inches, supported by a generous 9-foot, 8-inch beam. She tips the scales at 5,500 pounds dry and offers 40-fathom range with a 135-gallon fuel tank. Rated to carry twin outboards up to a total of 500 horsepower, she’ll offer excellent performance and fuel economy with a pair of 200s.

SeaBorn

Standard features include an easy-boarding port-side dive door, multiple charging ports, in-console head, LED lighting throughout, along with convenient passenger grab rails for improved safety.  From the helm, the pilot and co-pilot will appreciate the two-position leaning post when standing, but as the need arises, the unit easily converts to a captain’s style chair with backrest. On the console, there’s an endless array of information via two glass-mounted, multi-function displays. Other notable standards include on-console toggle switches, a phone-saving dash pad and a large shade-providing hardtop with overhead storage.

When it’s time to bend the rods, the LX26 provides additional cockpit depth compared to Sea Born’s bay boats, giving it big-boat energy and allowing owners to run near shore or offshore in bumpy seas in complete comfort and safety. At the bow, there’s an anchor pulpit and chain, ideal for keeping the boat steady over a wreck or reef. As with any craft, storage is always at a premium, and the LX26 delivers with ample gear and tackle bins, under-and-in-gunwale rod holders and a rounded port-side aerated baitwell. BELZONA

I had a chance to jump aboard the Belzona 27 Walkaround down at the Miami Boat show in 2020 and this is one sexy sportfisher; it’s like taking a sleek Euro sports car offshore to the tuna grounds. This boat will turn heads wherever she goes, especially if you opt for one of her aggressive exterior color patterns that will put some sizzle in your fishing and sport boat style.

Belzona

Belzona is based in Doral, FL and has been making positive waves in the sport fishing world with its impressive credentials and designs. Belzona engineers took the DNA of their successful 32-foot lineup creating a similarly uncompromising 27-foot hull that retained some of the key features, like twin engines offering impressive performance and offshore capability, a full cabin that comfortably sleeps two, a spacious cockpit that can be equipped for any blend of fishing and leisure and a helm and hardtop offering unsurpassed visibility and protection from the elements. At the helm, you’ll enjoy a commanding position as you navigate, thanks to ample shade from a unique fiberglass hardtop and comfy bench seating. Belzona’s signature forward-facing windshield keeps glare low and visibility high. With its sliding door built right into the starboard helm, there’s easy access down below to an enclosed marine head and comfortable vee-berth that sleeps two overnight.

The 27 Walkaround’s deep-vee hull design features 21.5 degrees of aft deadrise, with an overall length of 27 feet, 2 inches and a 9-foot, 4-inch beam. She’ll hit a top speed over 54 mph with a pair of 225s, and cruise at 30 to 35 mph with 1.6 mpg fuel efficiency. Her 154-gallon fuel tank will let you play out in the bluewater with the big boys. CAPE HORN

This Florida boat builder offers a fleet of rugged, ocean-going center console sportfishers that range from 22 to 36 feet. The newest addition to the lineup is the 24OS, which features a tweaked hull and totally redesigned floorplan for 2022. With a sprawling floor plan, the 24OS (Offshore) creates space, leaving more room to fish. Two huge livewells (25 and 40 gallons) insure that you will never run out of bait. The rear seat with its removable backrest is a nice addition and veteran bluewater anglers will appreciate the 20 rod holders located where you need them.

CapeHorn

The step-up in the bow makes throwing a cast-net easy and also adds the space for a huge storage box. A 470-quart insulated fish box below-deck will chill out almost anything that you can bring onboard; just remember to get the optional macerator pumpout. A lockable console includes two storage compartments with plenty of dry storage space for all of your gear. The front seat offers a flip-up lid which reveals a handy 85-qt insulated cooler down under and the standard leaning post delivers additional storage for tackle and gear. The 24 Offshore’s hull design is built for the bluewater, with a 25-foot, 1-inch length supported by an over-wide 9-foot, 1-inch beam. The deep-vee forefoot will slice through a tight chop and the running bottom tapers back to an aggressive 23 degrees of deadrise at the transom.

With a dry weight of 3,700 pounds without power and fuel capacity of 136 gallons, a pair of 150s should give her maximum range and performance. Notable standards include a 10-year hull warranty with lifetime transom warranty; aluminum trailer with four-wheel disc brakes; T-Top with electronics box; rear seating and leaning post with backrest; coaming bolsters; tilt-helm hydraulic steering; Sani-Pottie with holding tank; electric trim tabs with indicators; and unsinkable composite construction. MaritimePatriot

Some of the distinctive features of their Defiant center console series are the wraparound non-skid deck that facilitates easy boarding, installation of flush mount rod holders, pop-up cleats and self-bailing cockpits. Models 21 feet and larger have a large ‘step down’ area under the console that provides room for storage and an optional porta-pottie or marine head. The Patriot and Voyager Center Cabin models combine all the benefits of a center console with the convenience of a full cabin. You can walk and fish around the side decks of the cabin without tripping over elevated steps. Additional weather protection is provided by each of these models giving you the opportunity to cruise, play, or fish longer in comfort and security. The 23 and 25 Challenger cabin models feature a composite laminated glass windshield for strength and good looks. These boats have large versatile cockpits ideal for cruising and comfortably accommodating friends and family.

seahunt

Taking a closer look at the larger sister of the family, the 27 Escape has an overall length of 27 feet, 4 inches with a wide 9-foot beam. The cockpit is set back towards the transom a bit more than your typical center console fishing boat, but this is intentional. This design nuance frees up considerable space in the bow area for roomy seating, a removable dinette table, plus a half-coffin box that is set on the front side of the console, all of which equates to seating for five adults. There’s plenty of icy or dry storage onboard, with 100-quart insulated coolers set under the port and starboard bench seating, another 100-quart cooler under the coffin seat, plus yet another 100-quart ice box in the bow.

Other notable standards include a 10-gallon transom livewell, quad-wide rear bench seat, 19-gallon freshwater system and a 144-gallon fuel cell, which will give you the legs to go on some long-range “escapes”. With a sharp 50 degree entry that tapers back to 25 degrees of deadrise amidships and 20 degrees aft, she’s rated to carry up to 425 horsepower on the transom and this hull will tame any afternoon chop with her hefty 5,100-pound dry weight. For more information, visit www.seahuntboats.com.

Worldcat

Supporting the trend that fishing cats are getting, bigger, better and more acceptable amongst hardcore offshore anglers, the folks at Worldcat have introduced their latest fishing feline, the 400CC-X for the new model year. Due to the success of the dual console 400DC-X, Worldcat decided to develop a center console version, the 400CC-X, which is geared more toward fishermen while still maintaining its family-friendly amenities. Under development for five years, Worldcat designers took the time to tweak the twin hulls for optimum ride and fuel efficiency, also offering custom options that will allow owners to create a boat that meets their precise needs.

WorldCat

The 400CC-X is a 40-foot center console power catamaran with a generous 12-foot, 8-inch beam. It boasts a modest 21-inch draft, which is impressive for a boat of this size and weight of 14,500 pounds. The massive 604-gallon fuel capacity allows for remarkable range which will enable owners to explore distant fishing grounds not available to most multi-outboard monohull sportfishers. The top end with twin Yamaha 425’s is 50 mph, with optimum cruise at 3500 to 4000 rpm, where this feline will turn out 26 to 32 mph at over 1 mpg! Translated, that’s a whopping total of 18-hours of cruising range at 30 mph (560 miles) with a 10% reserve. Going with quad F300s, top speed increases to 57 mph, with a slightly decreased 1-mpg fuel efficiency from 27 to 32 mph.

Owners will be able to choose from different seating configurations with the mezzanine or sleigh options. Mezzanine seating offers a bench helm seat with an aft facing mezzanine seat and a large hardtop. The sleigh seating option also has a large hardtop, but has a second row bench style seat with aft tackle storage and a slide-out cooler. As the power catamaran market continues to grow, World Cat will keep pushing the limits for function, comfort, fuel efficiency and customization. For more information, visit www.worldcat.com.

Yellowfin

The new 54 Offshore from Yellowfin Yachts raises the bar in terms of what buyers can expect from a supersized center console. Available with quad or quint outboard power that will vary from 1,800 to 2,250 sea ponies hitched to the transom (Yamaha or Mercury), the 54 Offshore will provide the same legendary level of stepped-hull performance that has made Yellowfin an industry leader with previous models. Although Yellowfin is calling her a “center console”, practically speaking, it’s more of a walkaround or single level fisharound cabin design. The 54-foot overall length and wide 15-foot beam allowed the naval architects extra room to make things happen, both in the cockpit and down below.

Yellowfin

You can seat a small village of people on this boat with four-across individual bolster seating at the helm, an equal number in a mid-row of mezzanine seating, plus a third row of mezzanine seating that faces aft. Working forward towards the bow area, a triple wide sunpad will sequester three more crew members, plus two more can be situated in the port and starboard raised forward bench seats. Rod holders abound in every nook and cranny and, as you would expect on a vessel of this magnitude, the aft fishing cockpit is absolutely huge. A spacious cabin area beneath the mega console will house a full queen berth, a fully-equipped kitchenette, along with wraparound seating and a head. But hardcore fishing features abound on this debutant as well, including 150 gallons of livewell capacity that can be configured as one massive well, or split into two smaller 75-gallon wells. There’s also a huge, transverse fishbox in the cockpit sole with over 200 gallons of insulated capacity.

The 900-gallon fuel capacity will take you and the crew a long way to those distant canyons and you are likely to get there before most of the fleet. For additional info, visit www.yellowfin.com.

2022 New Outboards

On the flip side of the “supply chain” problems in 2021 has been an unprecedented demand for new outboard engines, both by original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and individual dealers/consumers. According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) over 330,000 new outboards were sold in the 2020 model year, up 18% from the year before and the highest sales volume in 20 years. The final results are still being tabulated for 2021, so we’ll see how the continuing pandemic and motor shortages throughout the year will impact the overall sales numbers.

With the continued global focus on “green” energy, electric outboards are starting to get more recognition and relevancy, a trend that is likely to increase in the coming years. I see electric outboards taking a similar flight path flown by the original four-strokes over 25 years ago when they were initially introduced to the marketplace. At first, they were a novelty, but then with each passing year, they made more sense, until two-strokes were ultimately replaced, going the way of the dinosaur. The recent technological advances made with Lithium-Ion batteries are helping E-outboards gain a more significant toehold in the marketplace. Accordingly, we will include European manufacturer Torqeedo in this year’s outboard roundup.

Still, it’s far from a fad—both Yamaha and Mercury will also be introducing electric outboards in the coming months, so it’s time to start paying more attention to these “winds of change.”

Mercury Marine

Mercury’s new 600-horsepower Verado is a technological marvel with a two-speed auto-shift transmission, huge 7.6-liter V12 powerhead, rotating gearcase used for steering, contra-rotating dual S/S props, and the ability to power boats up to 65 feet efficiently and safely. As you might expect, this frees up considerably more living space below decks, creating a new hybrid class of outboard-powered “super sportfishers” that will threaten the relevancy of cabin/flybridge inboards in the 35- to 65-foot range to their heavy metal core. Some of the highlights of the new Merc 600 are:

– A two-speed transmission that makes easy work of transferring 600 horsepower to the gearcase. It doles out maximum torque and acceleration in first gear, then silently shifts to second for efficient cruising and thrilling top speed.

– Electro-hydraulic controls allow the steerable gearcase to react instantly to driver commands.

– A new series of contra-rotating dual props that were designed to harness the full potential of 600 horsepower, with faster hole shots, plus exceptional handling and fuel economy at midrange speeds.

– A more rugged, refined next-generation Advanced MidSection (AMS) mounting system cradles the powerhead to isolate noise and vibration while careful tuning dampens induction sounds and nearly eliminates injection noise.

– A performance-inspired quad-cam design that’s tuned to power big boats out of the hole and over the swell. Even at midrange, you’ll experience instant acceleration and an exhilarating boost the moment you lean into the throttle

– The 600 Verado V12 is calibrated to deliver its 600 horsepower using readily available and affordable 87 octane gas.

On the electric outboard front, Brunswick (Mercury’s parent company) recently announced at the last stockholders’ meeting that there were “five new electric outboard models set to be launched by 2023 from Mercury and their Advanced Systems Group (ASG), with the first of these planned for 2022.” During this time, they will also install 15,000 advanced lithium battery systems to replace internal combustion engine generators on boats and other vehicles. For more information, visit www.mercurymarine.com.

Yamaha

yamahaYamaha recently introduced their new 250 and 300 digital electronic control (DEC) four-stroke outboards. The same smooth, fast and precise digital electric steering (DES) included on the 425 XTO Offshore is now built-in to the new F300 and F250 DEC models. Yamaha’s latest boat steering technology provides smooth, fast steering and, unlike some conventional steering systems, draws battery amperage only when actively in use. DES is significantly easier to rig than traditional steering systems and creates a clean bilge with no steering pumps, hoses, hydraulic lines, connections, or fluid spills.

When hitting reverse, thrust enhancing reverse exhaust (TERE) keeps exhaust bubbles above the anti-ventilation plate and out of the propeller below 2,500 rpm. This means the prop bites cleaner water, resulting in outstanding reverse thrust and control to back down on fish or into your boat slip at the marina.

Yamaha’s exclusive TotalTilt function allows complete tilt-up from any position with a simple, quick double-tap push of the “UP” trim/tilt button, or full tilt down (until trim ram contact) by the same double-tap push of the “DOWN” trim/tilt button. There’s also a new built-in integrated tilt limiter to help prevent accidental damage to fiberglass parts of the transom’s outboard well or bulkhead. Built-in DES models tilt higher out of the water than previous models, which helps lessen the potential for corrosion on the prop and lower unit. The new 4.2-liter V6 Offshore model also has an improved lower unit featuring new components and design features that add durability for the long haul.

Yamaha’s new HARMO (harmony) is a complete electric boat control system that combines advanced propulsion technology, environmental awareness, future vision, and proven joystick control to provide high thrust and maneuverability. It’s not a true bolt-on-the-transom outboard, but more of a sterndrive unit. HARMO features Helm Master EX system controls (including the joystick) for simple, intuitive operation in a clean, quiet, environmentally friendly system with an innovative rim-drive electric motor that turns a large impeller. While rim drive motors have been deployed for thrusters and other marine applications, this is the first transom mount electric motor application.

Coupling a 48-volt power supply with a high-yield, low-drag 3.7-kilowatt motor, HARMO’s rim-drive, and specially encased impeller provide 225 pounds of thrust, which is equivalent to a 9.9-horsepower gas-powered outboard motor. Run times depend on battery type, size, configuration, and operational parameters. HARMO features integrated Digital Electric Steering (DES) with a 140-degree total steering angle, combining strong, smooth acceleration with incredibly sharp handling and control. The control system can rotate a single-engine boat within its length and allow for twin configuration accurate lateral operation. Additionally, its extreme 74-degree tilt angle helps keep the impeller clear of the water when not in use. For more information, visit www.yamahaoutboards.com.

Suzuki

suzukiThe latest Suzuki four-strokes to hit the marketplace are the new DF115BG and DF140BG. Suzuki reset its older DF115 and DF140 outboards, upgrading them to the DF115A and DF140A models, which share a larger 2.0-liter powerhead. These new BG series four-strokes are the first in their class to offer all the advantages of drive-by-wire technology. By bringing its proven drive-by-wire technology to its 115-horsepower and 140-horsepower in-line four-cylinder models, Suzuki is providing simplified rigging for a wide range of boat builders, along with silky smooth shifting, instant throttle response, and enhanced performance.

An upgraded compression ratio of 10.6:1 helps these new 2.0-liter displacement outboards achieve better top speed and acceleration by improving thermal efficiency. Fuel is delivered via a throttle body digital EFI system. Fuel efficiency has also been increased as compared to Suzuki’s existing DF115/DF140A models. Other upgrades include a 40-amp alternator on both models that deliver improved output and battery charging performance at lower idle speeds.

The engines’ exterior features a sporty, streamlined exterior design and is available in 20-inch and 25-inch shaft lengths. Both new outboards boast new graphics and are available in Suzuki’s Pearl Nebular Black and Cool White color schemes. The redesigned cowl also incorporates a new air intake structure with improved water separation and a silencer/resonator system to attenuate engine noise and provide a pleasant boating experience at all engine speeds/RPM. To make routine maintenance more accessible, Suzuki made it possible to replace the oil filter simply by removing the upper engine cover. A new oil spill catcher surrounding the oil filter mount allows for changing the filter without making a mess. Suzuki also added an easy access Water Detection Fuel Filter to help protect the engine against contaminated fuel. For more information, visit www.suzukimarine.com.

Tohatsu

TohatsuPicking up on last year’s introduction of their new 2.0-liter MFS75A/90A/115A in-line four-cylinder, four-strokes, Tohatsu has added a fourth member to the clan with the addition of the MFS140A for the 2022 model year. This newbie provides outstanding torque, increased durability, lightweight and smooth operation.

One of the most exciting features of the MFS140A is the ground-breaking 4-2-1 Performance Tuned Exhaust, which provides steady torque throughout the RPM range. The more torque you have on take-off, the faster/better the holeshot, in addition to having a realistic passing gear when you hit the throttle during lower cruising speeds. This unique design is an industry-first and currently is a Tohatsu exclusive. By engineering each exhaust passage to be equal in length, the merging of each cylinder’s exhaust creates extra suction that helps pull the exhaust from the engine. This eliminates the possibility of exhaust interference and drastically improves the performance.

The synergy between the 4-2-1 exhaust and the ECU programming on the new MFS140A provides strong acceleration when needed to get the boat on plane quicker, also allowing the operator to reach top-end speed faster. This engine’s unique SOHC/four-valve design places the spark plugs in the center of each combustion chamber for the most efficient combustion, with optimal heat conduction and fuel efficiency.

This motor is equipped with standard features such as Variable Idle System (which allows the operator to change the idle speed in five 50-rpm steps from 650 to 850 rpms) and a micro-computer-controlled ignition system for quick starts and instant throttle response. It also boasts electronic fuel injection, a low gear ratio (2.08:1) that provides increased low-end torque, a freshwater flushing system designed to make routine flushing easier, and a high output 41-amp alternator—the Tohatsu MFS140A is a perfect match for small-to-midsized boats.

Other notable features include a new gearcase with a wider splash and anti-ventilation plates and adjustable steering friction and trim tab for reduced steering effort. Additionally, it has an oil tray catch pan set underneath the filter for cleaner oil changes, an easily accessible and removable fuel filter, and a stainless steel water pump housing for increased durability. For more info, visit www.tohatsu.com.

Honda

hondaFor 2022, Honda has reengineered and redesigned their existing BF115 and BF150 in-line four-cylinder outboards, introduced a new BF140, and added upgrades and improvements that boost performance for all three of these midsized four-strokes. Available in Aquamarine Silver or Grand Prix White, the BF115, BF140, and BF150 feature sleek, aerodynamic styling for a bold, new look. All three outboards are now available with Honda’s Intelligent Shift and Throttle (iST) drive-by-wire system for superb control and power. Repositioned anodes and a new bolt coating enhance corrosion resistance. The redesigned cowl provides easier spark plug access.

Other redesigned and repositioned components include the trim and tilt unit, water separator, fuel filters, and an enlarged dipstick tube. Combined with enhanced diagnostic codes, these changes make maintenance easier than ever and significantly reduce maintenance time. The powerful, compact, 2.35-liter 24-valve DOHC design creates more valve lift to pull in more air for increased horsepower. The low-maintenance design allows easy adjustment of the rocker arms. The Lean Burn Control allows combustion to operate on a leaner air/fuel mixture. Programmed Fuel Injection delivers the precise amount of fuel/air to each cylinder too. The result of these is easy starts and instant throttle response with superior fuel efficiency.

Other notable standards include three separate cooling systems keep the cylinder heads running cooler for long-term durability, a single front-mounted latch combines with four securing points to ensure a water-tight seal, a freshwater port that flushes debris and saltwater out of the engine, extending the life of the outboard plus 20-inch and 25-inch shaft lengths, with counter-rotating models available for multiple engine applications. TorqeedoTorqeedo’s new Cruise lineup consists of 3 kW (6-hp equivalent), 6 kW (9.9-hp), and 12 kW (25-hp) electric outboard motors that are powered by lithium-ion batteries. The new 6- to 25-horspower equivalent motors have a completely reworked electrical design with enhanced thermal behavior and even more robust aluminum pylon with integral fin, ultra-quiet, and durable helical gears, plus improved tiller functionality. Cruise 12.0 and 6.0 Remote now ships with TorqLink, Torqeedo’s advanced communications system, allowing faster and more accurate data sharing between system components. TorqLink makes solar charging, charging via hydrogeneration, and AC generator integration as simple as 1-2-3 when paired with Torqeedo’s Power 48-5000 lithium-ion batteries and chargers.

The Cruise 12.0 outboard weighs just 60 kg (132 pounds), delivering exceptional thrust, powering displacement, or planing hulls with a 25-horsepower equivalent motor. The redesigned 9.9-horsepower equivalent Cruise 6.0 with TorqLink quickly powers displacement vessels up to 5 tons or lightweight planing RIBs. A complete Cruise 6.0 outboard system weighs less than 70 kg (154 pounds), including battery and throttle. Need more range or more power? Consider a twin system for vessels up to 10 tons, or add more energy storage. Up to eight Power 48-5000 batteries can be connected to your Cruise drive system, extending the range to up to 200 nautical miles. The new Cruise 3.0 is an affordable 6-horsepower equivalent drive system for displacement hulls up to 3 tons or smaller inflatables. This lightweight electric drive system runs on 24 volts to integrate up to sixteen Power 24-3500 lithium-ion batteries easily. Torqeedo also currently offers 40-horsepower and 80-horsepower equivalent electric drive motors for commercial applications, with more good stuff to come.
