51st Annual Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational July 21-25 - The Fisherman

51st Annual Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational July 21-25

It’s considered the oldest white marlin tournament in the entire country, and from July 21-25 the contest will go on out of Beach Haven.

According to organizers at the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club, 2020 is an exciting year as it heads into the 51st year of the White Marlin Invitational Tournament.  “The WMIT is stronger than ever and we are pleased with the enthusiasm and participation of the past few years, and enter 2020 looking to build on the 2019 momentum while honoring the rich heritage of the tournament and ensuring it is well positioned for many years to come,” said tournament director  Dave Ridley.

The WMIT is actually more of an “open” tournament in in which any boat interested in participating can sign-up.  The tournament begins with Tuesday, July 21 with the captain’s meeting/in-person registration at the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club, with captains and crews picking two of four available days to fish from Wednesday through Saturday, July 22-25.

In 2019, 33 boats from 26 to 68 feet in length fished for their share of over $100,000, with up to $22,000 in treasure chest paid out (meaning even if you enter no calcuttas, you can still win up to $22,000).  There were four blue marlin released during last year’s event, along with 27 white marlin releases and one boated.  Numerous bluefin, yellowfin and dolphin were also caught and registered for awards and payouts.

Ridley said the tournament website is main source of information including rules, registration, schedule of events, tournament logistics, and resources for participants/guests.  Get all the details there at www.TheWMIT.com, and for more information contact him directly at 908-963-5924.
