Product Showcase: Penn Clash II

This season PENN has officially released their new Clash II inshore reels featuring their proprietary CNC Gear Technology (brass pinion; aluminum main) and HT-100 Carbon Fiber Drag System.

“The Clash II is the highest functioning reel to date from PENN,” said PENN Vice President of Marketing, Jon Schlosser. “It’s high speed and fast moving, delivering inshore anglers a unique combination of power and performance paired with durability and intuitive line-management features.”

Product Showcase Penn Class Ii MAIN

Available in sizes from 1000 to 5000 with high speed models in the 3000 and 4000 sizes, the PENN Clash II has the right size and gear ratio for any inshore application.  I’ve been using the 4000 series matched with an 8-foot medium surf stick for tossing tins and bucktails in the late spring/early summer surf; it’s super-light and comfortable, with smooth as silk retrieve and drag.  Spooled with 20-pound Berkley x5 braid, it casts beautifully and has worked well so far on cocktail blues and stripers to 36 inches.

Product Showcase Penn Class Ii CLOSEUPClutch Armor System and Hydrophobic Line Roller Bearing ensure strength and protection to critical components in all weather conditions, while the Leveline Slow Oscillation System ensures perfect line lay.  Braid-friendly Superline Spool means you can spool directly without tape or backing.   Also standard with all Clash II models is the full metal body and sideplate, while the 3000/4000 models come with paddle knob and easy to attach power knob (the 3000/4000 high speed models has the power knob as standard).  With the carbon fiber drag and 8+1 stainless-steel bearing system, the Clash II is designed to handle our local abuse in the salt.

If you’re looking for a good rod partner, consider the new Fenwick HMG Inshore rods also out this summer (more on that in next week’s edition of The Fisherman); it’s a great combination for fluke, weakfish or striped bass.  PENN Clash II prices range from $209.9 for the 1000 size (9 to 10 pounds of drag) on up to $249.95 for the 5000 size (20 pounds of drag).  Hit your local shop now and pick one up; you’re going to love this reel!
