ASAC Tournaments At Brigantine, LBI And Ocean City In October

The Association of Surf Angling Clubs (ASAC) fall tournament season is underway at the Jersey Shore, with four contests (H.W. Shaner at Avalon, Pennsauken Surf Fishing Club at North Wildwood, and both the American Angler and LBI Fishing Club contests on LBI) already in the books for September, and three more scheduled for October.

On October 7, the ASAC sanctioned 38th Annual Women’s Surf Fishing Club (WSFC) of New Jersey Tournament 38th Annual Women’s Surf Fishing Club of New Jersey Tournament will be held on the beach at Brigantine. Organized in 1952, WSFC was the first surf-fishing club established for women on the East Coast, and their October 7th event in Brigantine is open to both teams and individuals.  For information contact Reggi Vasta at 215-901-2474 or [email protected].  Learn more about the club at wsfcnj.org.

The following weekend along the beaches of Long Beach Island, the Merchantville Fishing Club will host their 6th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament, another ASAC sanctioned event.  Held on Saturday, October 14, the surfcasters only tournament is also open to teams and individuals.  Now in its 75th year, the Merchantville Fishing Club meets monthly (second Monday) at the Merchantville Community Center.  For more information contact Gene Aikens at 609-440-6994 or [email protected], for visit the club’s website at merchantvillefishingclub.com.

Finally on October 21, the 54th Annual Ocean City Fishing Club Surf Fishing Tournament will be held in Ocean City.  Another ASAC tournament open to both teams and individuals, this surfcasting event is run by the Ocean City Fishing Club which was founded in the summer of 1913 and is the oldest continuously operated fishing club in the country.  For contest information contact Ed Parkinson at 215-680-6652 or [email protected], and learn more about the club at oceancityfishingclub.com.

ASAC was founded in 1915 by a dedicated group of surf anglers primarily interested in perfecting and improving the art of surfcasting.  In addition to promoting surfcasting throughout the region, ASAC also approves and acts as a representative organization for a number of area surf fishing tournaments, with a unique contest format geared towards conservation, competition and camaraderie.  Go to asaconline.org.
