First up on the offshore tournament circuit this month is the Ocean City Marlin & Tuna Club’s 48th annual offshore event from August 10-17. This season, the Ocean City Marlin and Tuna Club is proud to announce that the Offshore Open has officially been renamed the 48th Annual Gold Star Offshore Open with proceeds going to support the Michael Strange Foundation.
Strange, a highly decorated Navy Special Warfare Operator who grew up in Pennsylvania and enjoyed summers at the Jersey Shore fishing and crabbing, was killed in action in 2011 while serving in Afghanistan. This new name of this offshore event is a fitting tribute to the legacy of one of America’s bravest warriors.
Those participating in the Gold Star Offshore Open may leave and return via any inlet from Absecon to Townsend Inlet, with weigh-in stations including Seaview Harbor Fuel in Longport, FINATICS in Ocean City, Tight Lines in Somers Point and Marmora, Point Tackle in Somers Point, Riptide Bait and Tackle in Brigantine, Moran’s Dockside in Avalon, or Sea Isle Bait and Tackle in Sea Isle. Download the registration form at ocmtc.com.
Expect a busy week on the offshore grounds even north of Absecon, as the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club will host their 56th Annual White Marlin Invitational from August 11-16, with captain’s choice two of four available fishing days.
Boats may depart and return from any inlet in New Jersey, with tournament boundaries limited to a 125-nautical mile radius from the Little Egg sea buoy (Latitude: 39° 27’ 56.2”, Longitude: 74° 16’27.3”). All fish to be weighed must be taken to the official White Marlin Invitational scale location at Dock Road in Beach Haven. For details go to whitemarlininvitational.com.
Then on August 17, the main event kicks off with final registration and captains meeting at the Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May, as well as Sunset Marina in Ocean City, MD. Running from August 18-22, the MidAtlantic has continually set the standard for big game fishing tournaments in terms of prize money, hospitality, and conservation. Now in its 34th year the MidAtlantic has truly been a one-of-a-kind experience that continues to create lasting memories.
Along with their prime locations, each port has first class accommodations and offers distinct amenities for participants to enjoy while dockside. Both locations have fully run weigh-ins simultaneously, which are broadcast via our livestream media to keep everyone informed as the excitement happens and the participants take center stage.
