In Rhode Island, don’t forget that the blackfish (tautog) season reopens on August 31 with a minimum size of 16 inches and three fish bag limit. Also, be advised, that the trophy slot remains in effect for all open blackfish seasons in Rhode Island, so only one fish per limit may exceed 21 inches. This segment of the season remains open until October 14 and on October 15, the bag limit will increase to five fish per angler per day. Massachusetts matches these all of the Rhode Island regulations and season from August 1 through the end of the season.
For Connecticut (anglers or any anglers who may crossover into New York or Connecticut waters) we want to remind you that effective as of August 2, the minimum size limit for summer flounder (fluke) increases from 19 inches to 19-1/2 inches. The daily bag limit remains three fish per angler, and the season continues through October 15. Rhode Island anglers, fishing on the state’s six fish bag limit should be extra aware of border waters, to avoid legality issues.
Be sure to measure all of your fish on a rigid measuring device before placing it in the cooler, as that extra half-inch can make the difference between a legal catch and a violation.
